So now Z comes back and wants to sign the deal and the WH is saying that specific deal is now off the table, at least temporarily.

    Yep

Zelensky 'ready to sign' minerals deal with US just days after being booted out of White House

President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is "ready to sign" a minerals deal with the United States, just days after a tense meeting in the White House.

The Ukrainian President said he "just want[ed] the Ukrainian position to be heard" when he was questioned about the meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Trump told Zelensky in the Oval Office: "You're gambling with millions of people… You're gambling with World War Three" urging him to accept the mineral deal.

The deal allegedly involves no security guarantees by the US to Ukraine, which has been a key demand by the war-torn country so far.

I agree with that and agree with a lot of the politico article……..someone has been saying this all along

As for security guarantees, Bessent put the onus squarely on Europe.

“Well, look, I think the plan is for the European Union to provide this security, not NATO, the European Union,” he told Brennan

Well, looks like Zelensky was trying to round up some funding for the Ukrainian military at the Oscars.

he has always been willing to sign provided that it came with security guarantees, not pinky promises like the last time the US guaranteed that Ukraine would be protected if they gave up their nuclear weapons.

consider the reality that they played this game before. US and Russia all "guaranteed" Ukraine would be safe if they gave up their nukes, one of the largest stockpiles in the world at the time. Then Crimea and eastern Ukraine, then this. Would you accept the same promise again? Seriously?

have you forgotten about this? wasn't aware of it? just choose to dismiss it as it never happened?

The Trilateral Process: The United States, Ukraine, Russia and Nuclear Weapons

Why care about Ukraine and the Budapest Memorandum

In the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, the United States, Russia, and Britain committed “to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine” and “to refrain from the threat or use of force” against the country. Those assurances played a key role in persuading the Ukrainian government in Kyiv to give up what amounted to the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal, consisting of some 1,900 strategic nuclear warheads.

I'm not sure, but I think she's talking about a weapons black market, and I think it's certainly possible that the odd weapon is "lost," or paperwork is "lost," or some employee is just making a buck out the back door. On a large scale, probably not, if all the restrictions hold.

not sure about that source but did Zelensky change his position? It was Trump and Vance that were all into drama and emotional. They were very upset and hurt because they thought Zekensky didn’t say thank you enough and kicked him out.

@gaterzfan ...were you aware that Russia and USA had already lied to Ukraine about their security once before?

does that matter? would you trust the USA and Russia to honor another pinky promise?

Oooooooor option B, after telling everyone he would sign in DC, Z arrived and tried to change the deal at the last second and say he would only sign with security guarantees. Something The US had said all along they will not be doing. So he was told to pack His sh-t for the bait and switch.

I’m glad that deal is now off the table and I hope trump raised and now instead of a 50-50 Minerals deal as originally agreed to, it’s now 60-40 or 70-30
