How The Biden Administration Used A Counter-Terrorism Grant To Fund Anti-Conservative Propaganda How The Biden Administration Used A Counter-Terrorism Grant To Fund Anti-Conservative Propaganda | The Daily Wire The Department of Homeland Security paid an activist group $700,000 to create self-described propaganda that attacked conservatives, a new investigation found. DHS used a grant program intended to combat terrorists, called the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Program, to pay activists to write blog posts that criticized Donald Trump and other conservatives under the guise of “media literacy,” the Media Research Center found through public records requests. In its funding application, the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab declared that “propaganda and misinformation concerning topics including immigration [and] racial justice” had become “disruptive.” It asked DHS for funding to run “community-created counter-propaganda.”
Yeah, I'm not sure how that falls under counter-terrorism. Misinformation is a huge problem in this country. Actually everywhere, I assume. But having the government trying to fight it gets the gray area of really being accurate and non-partisan. Of propaganda. Having some teaching about how to avoid misinformation might be a decent idea, if it's workable. It's a great skill to have, the question is how well it can be taught. Obviously, paying people to write bad stuff about conservatives (or liberals) is wrong. But it's not clear that was really going on or if MRC just concluded that any attack on misinformation is an attack on conservatives.
I feel like it will continue to happen more frequently and from both sides. Both sides will use the federal government might to their political ends. It will inevitably come to a head. Just a question of when and how.
My guess is whatever they were writing wasnt posts about how the flat-tax was bad or something and that what the Daily Wire considers "anti-Conservative" is pretty creative or a self-own of sorts. "Dont overthrow the government ... why that's anti-conservative slander!"
You mean misinformation like the vax will stop the spread? You are unpatriotic and killing your neighbor if you don't wear a mask? This is now a pandemic of the nonvaxed. Yup, you are right, misinformation can definitely radicalize people!!
Hate groups are recruiting dumbasses through social media misinformation campaigns. Dept of Homeland funds a small group at the University of Rhode Island to address the misinformation by hate groups (apparently conservatives). COURAGEOUS RI is a media literacy program to reduce the hate that leads to violence by building a coalition of empowered people who recognize, analyze, and resist harmful forms of expression and communication. The program is an initiative of the Media Education Lab, whose mission is to improve the practice of digital and media literacy education through scholarship and community service. The University of Rhode Island received a grant for COURAGEOUS RI from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships, opportunity number DHS-22-TTP-132-00-01. https://www.courageousri.com/about What We Do
First of all, I'm not sure how you even glean any meaningful facts out of these Daily Wire articles with all the personal editorializing, but I digress. It sure seems like this is a vague attempt to drum up a scandal under the guise of "anti-conservative" when in reality it just so happens that conservative viewpoints align with misinformation. It's pretty clear to me that we need to put a lot more money toward media literacy and spotting misinformation considering nearly 2/3 of Iowa caucus voters still think Trump won the 2020 election Let's look at some of their specific concerns though: The anti-terrorism grant program was created under the Obama administration, and Miles Taylor, the DHS chief of staff under Donald Trump who gained notoriety for writing a New York Times op-ed admitting to undermining Trump from within, maneuvered to ensure that it lived on despite his boss’ wishes, according to a 2020 Politico article. By this year, the program was being used to explicitly liken people who believed that there is a “deep state” — the idea that unelected bureaucrats might behave like Miles — to Holocaust deniers. The Politico article? They tried to get Trump to care about right-wing terrorism. He ignored them. They tried to get Trump to care about right-wing terrorism. He ignored them. How terrible! A program to combat domestic terror. Maybe the Daily Wire should be more concerned that the President didn't care about stopping Domestic terrorism instead of complaining about blog posts trying to stop it. What other complaints do they have? The Rhode Island Lab used the DHS money to pay people $250 each to write blog posts about “misinformation, disinformation, media literacy… and more!” The articles pushed for Left-wing policies, even though federal grants cannot be used to fund lobbying. The posts sometimes had less to do with “media literacy” than political opining, railing against the National Rifle Association and Stand Your Ground laws. The posts? Why Are We Passive About Mass Shootings? https://web.archive.org/web/2023072.../post/why-are-we-passive-about-mass-shootings What it Means That Stewart Rhodes Was Convicted of Seditious Conspiracy https://web.archive.org/web/2023071...-rhodes-was-convicted-of-seditious-conspiracy Oh the humanity! Discussing our mass shooting problem and what seditious conspiracy means? I'm sorry if being "anti-conservative" is being against domestic terrorism, mass shootings, and seditious conspiracy. If that bothers you then probably a good time to take a long look in the mirror and think about what you really stand for.
