"mental health vacations". Seriously? I understand college sports are a business, but if you've never been through "mental health issues" as you put it, I don't think you can understand how it cripples people. It's different for everyone and it is seldom logical. My daughter's college has had more than ten students commit suicide in the past year alone. Maybe the kid deserved to be removed from the team...I don't know. I just know that there's never an excuse for treating anybody the way Kiffen reportedly did.

After over 30 years as a software engineer, I encountered mental health issues a couple of years ago. I literally retreated into a shell and couldn't get myself to go to work or even leave the house. Luckily I was able to get help and my company didn't stigmatize me by calling my leave of absence a "mental health vacation." Since my treatment, I returned to my job and have always been treated with dignity. That's how mental health issues should be handled.

Much depends on how well liked this kid is in the locker room

Assuming what is being quoted is accurate he should have stopped himself right there and he would have been correct, if a little harsher than necessary.

The rest was not only unnecessary, but abusive. No that is not a crime, or even a tort. But it us not a good look and a head coach should know and do better.

Might have been better to say "you no showed, maybe you had your reasons, but we have standards that apply to everyone, and being fair to everyone else who abides by them means I have to let you go."

You know he is a goner, so why exert yourself any further?

More than likely, the school is not going to want the real audio recordings to come out for fear of further bad PR and will settle. In that case, it’d be a win.

If they settle take it as solid indication that the truth is worse than the precedent of paying off a nuisance complaint.

100% here as well. I still care about the "University of Florida" part of "Gators". These things that Freeze, Kiffin, Petrino, Bruce Pearl have done -- have we all lost any sense of shame or consequence? Do wins trounce character that much?

I know a couple of recent posters have already started pining for Kiffin. But on top of everything...the story of his new girlfriend is just so skeevy. 2019 Ole Miss grad? Less than half his age? Is he treating campus as IRL Tinder? Gross.

Locker room may be fine. It’s the stuff outside the locker room that can get problematic.

lol, no, just crazy how the word "racist" gets so overused. Everything seems to be called "racist" these days. You will be glad I said overused vs underused. I've had my two cups of coffee.

Being a little serious for a moment, I agree. I lost someone dear to me several years ago and I experienced some thoughts and feelings that I never expected to have. And in light of rising suicide rates among teens, there really is nothing terribly funny about a young person in pain. Ole Miss and LK apparently think otherwise. I guess we'll see if UM wants to ride this donkey all the way to town. Liable or not, it's a really bad look for UM from a PR standpoint, especially with the LK douchery fully factored in. I would not be surprised by an OOC settlement to be honest.

You might want to check out what's going on at Auburn and Hugh Freeze. Following the event, Freeze was one of those who took to Auburn's Ag Heritage Park — otherwise known as the Red Barn — as more than 100 students were baptized, according to Auburn basketball player Dylan Cardwell, who posted on the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Yes this same Hugh Freeze who helped baptize a freshmen safety. I hope you're not saying people can't repent and turn their life around after major mistakes. I know some don't but others can and have.
I know your post is all about UF and that's good but you did bring up the name of Hugh Freeze and I'm happy for his change and hopefully you are too.

Oh, relax. No one was talking about you. I was talking about a young college athlete who was demoted to the scout team for performance reasons. Instead of responding to a setback (which everyone on the planet experiences) with resilience or, hell, just transferring to another school, he simply stops showing up to practice and meetings. Then when the head coach asks to see him, he fails to show for weeks.

What would have happened in your situation if you no-showed for weeks and then blew off your boss’ summons for more weeks with no explanation? You would be damn lucky if the worst you got was an ass-chewing and only being threatened with being fired.

I am genuinely sorry for what you went through. Seen situations like it. But your situation is not this guy’s situation.
