That is almost certainly Delphi. I have friends who work in Juarez and Tijuana for them. They already have razor thin margins. People can say what they want about "media exaggerated impacts of Trump Taxes", but companies like Delphi have ZERO room to absorb these taxes and will immediately pass them on to GM, who will in turn pass it on to the consumer and/or cut internal costs via lay-offs.

Why would Trump want to wage a trade war in this hemisphere, which would result in more countries turning to China, help us “thump China trade routes.” I see the opposite—Panama turns to China for even greater reliance.

I was talking last night to a client with string business ties in China. She was telling me that the news of the 10% tariff was being celebrated there; it’s considered a big nothing-burger.

One of the ingredients my company uses comes from Canada. We have been in contact with them about the tariffs and what would our new price be. They told us that they were told since it is an ingredient and not a finished product there would be no tariff. I'm not sure I believe that so we will see.

I think it’s rare to see blanket tariffs; usually they do large swaths of HTS codes. I could see the US not wanting to tariff raw materials because it would be seen as detrimental to domestic manufacturing (Mexico did a similar exemption a year ago for billet/raw vs extruded aluminum).

I stand corrected. I have re-thought this after looking at China shipping routes through Panama Canal. China accounts for ~~ 22% of volume — likely most to US ports. The US is ~~ 44% of volume.

I see Trump’s points on Panama Canal to be more relevant in a global trade war, reducing reliance on China, and stemming illicit drug trafficking.

With regards to South America, I don’t see the US having the political will to nation build in South America like China will do. If the US could flood South America with better jobs and economies, that helps China as a wealth market. Perhaps the goal is to let China do the nation building and then the US can sell into South America when they have the economy to buy worthless plastic things.

Canada and Mexico strike back with 25% tariffs. Looks like Trump has the Americas hemisphere on a race to the bottom. Trump plans on escalating the tariffs if other nations respond with tariffs on U.S. goods, which is inevitably what happens in a situation like this. Congratulations, Trump-a-holics! Our neighbors now hate us, and we are well on our way to economic ruin. All because of our childish president and his idiotic ideas.

Trump puts tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, spurring trade war as North American allies respond

Looks like Mexico and Canada plan to specifically target red states with a lot of their counter measures including the ban of the sale of all liquor distilled in red states

My default drink of choice Royal Crown, imported from Canada. If the price goes up 25% I will switch to an American whiskey. It won't cost me any more money.

Ah, so not only are they not following the example they expected Trump to follow, they are being petty about it to boot. Gee, it's almost like they want to take advantage of us or somethin.

What's the example Trump set? Slapping tariffs down for no obvious reason just to be jerks?

And you will have a better taste and drink in my opinion. Unfortunately there are other products that we can't switch so easily such as new cars

Except that American whiskey producers will likely increase their prices due to higher demand for American whiskey.

I’d be skeptical of that since China filed a lawsuit with the WTO. Then again China probably knows Trump will eventually declare victory after throwing the country into a recession, and seeing our former trade partners turning to China and Europe instead. Then right on cue he’ll blame the Democrats, DEI, and Haitians eating our family pets.
