A somewhat legitimate insider on another board mentioned 5 more players are considering a transfer portal move, including one defensive starter (claims not to know specifics on the other 4). There are a handful of upper class men that are still on the roster that probably will never play meaningful minutes (Don’t want to call players out but I am sure many of you know 2 o linemen and 1 DT) that I think would be helpful if they transferred - but seems to me that those are the guys that aren’t leaving (maybe want the Uf degree which is a good thing for them). I don’t want to see more potential starters leave - depth won’t be solid for a year or two. So I hope this “insider” is wrong.
The odds of us getting a better player than what’s leaving us in the portal are not great. It’s just a case of musical chairs Portal moves work when it’s an elite player moving up division, super stacked position group leaving for PT (basically QB) or someone leaving for personal reasons. At this stage nearly all the guys transferring will be due to being pushed out (or simply wanting more playing time). So we lose an X and we will get an X
I think we will still upgrade at safety and OL from the portal, possibly at WR and edge. And we will lose more to the portal, inevitable
I think at this point if players who wouldn’t hurt your depth left in the portal and you cannot replace them, I guess it is a win since it opens up a scholarship for a larger high school class. Other than that, spring portal doesn’t seem great.
I think a better QB and a more balanced system will allow him to put up some stats, but nothing eye catching. I'll put it like this, Jacob Copeland did this last year, and while Maryland had other passing options to share the ball with, he didn't really jump off the page. And Copeland is much better than Henderson imo.
