I would think that a jump seat would be right by the plane's exit door, along with a parachute. I know that's what I would want.

Gotta think this is a mental break of some sort.
If he really wanted to take a plane down it would be light years simpler if he were in the captain or copilot chairs, which he would be in days probably. One person to fight off instead of two in that scenario and easier access to the controls. So seemingly not thought through and a sudden decision.
Hope he gets help, regardless of what happens with the deserved criminal case.

Or the FedEx employee who attacked the pilots with hammers in order to crash the plane.

I doubt he ever flies for a commercial airliner again.

Yes, there is a trusted category for pilots only (flight attendants are not allowed in there for instance) but final approval is entirely up to the individual flight crews. I suspect this may have an effect on Alaska’s policy.

My brother is a pilot for them so I’ll find out the scuttlebutt on this.

It almost had to be a mental breakdown at that time. If he wanted to plan it, he would do it when he was flying as the pilot or co pilot.

If true the guy should never fly again in any form, commercial or private, passenger or pilot. This is weird story and carried out so poorly it makes me wonder if there’s more to it.

I have two friends who are licensed drone pilots. I don’t think he will get that license either.

His best bet is to just use the Donald Trump defense: "I didn't do anything wrong."

He was apparently on his way to work flying a plane out of SFO. So I’m glad he snapped when he did and not a few hours later.

it's idiots like this that keep us from having nice things.

Alaska Airlines off-duty pilot Joseph Emerson said he took "magic mushrooms" 48 hours before trying to shut off engines, prosecutors say - CBS News

An off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot said he took "magic mushrooms" about 48 hours before authorities say he tried to shut off a plane's engines midflight, according to court documents filed Tuesday. Joseph Emerson told investigators in the aftermath of Sunday's midair scare aboard a San Francisco-bound flight that he thought he was dreaming and wanted to wake up, an Oregon prosecutor said in an affidavit.

I dabbled back in the day but don't claim to be a mushroom expert. The mushrooms kept him awake for two days? I wonder if he was also taking something else.
