I'm interested in seeing how he tests at the combine.

While I'm skeptical he measures anywhere close to 6'3 1/2 or 6'4, I think he could test better athletically than people might expect.

For all those people that thought Mike White was a great recruiter... he passed on Walter Clayton coming out of high school. It took a coaching legend to see his true worth.

I'm just glad he chose to come back to his home state of Florida... the Gators.

How do you guys think our success this year will effect our future recruiting (assuming Golden continues coaching our team)?

You’d be crazy not to want to play for golden. He runs a high octane offense and really believes in his players.

The glaring recruiting issue with Mike White was his inability to bring in enough quality bigs. He inherited Egbunu, DFS, and others and had early success, but after they moved on we routinely got hammered on the boards. CTG made that a priority and within two years he had built a rebounding machine.
This program took off like a Saturn 5 rocket.

I don’t think anyone ever considered him a great evaluator. He was a good recruiter in that he could beat out competition for kids he wanted. But he just never had a sense for what kinds of kids he wanted and how they fit into into a system. That’s where Golden is superior.

I think White was a solid evaluator of talent… and I’d point to guys like SGA, Nembhard, Leon, Keyontae and Aberdeen.
But I think you nailed it with your post… he just never effectively recruited to his style, and thus never really coached to his style. It was odd and frustrating.

And since I am too lazy to find the previous thread about Clayton's place in Gator basketball hierarchy, I said I would probably give him "1a" status to Green's "1b" status IF he is on the winning end of the NC. I have now revised my stand to giving him "1a" regardless of the outcome of today's game.

If we win it and he is a significant part of the reason (how could he not??) then he get moved up to sole first place. Green then moves to second all by himself. Not sure Taurean would mind.

Exactly. There was a reason Clayton signed with Iona just like there was a reason Broome originally went to Morehead State. It was because a bunch of coaches didn’t think either could play at high D1 level schools.

I love, absolutely love, his style of offense!
Considering UF is what? #2 in scoring? I think we can say it's excellent.

A lot of coaches passed on him. Otherwise, he wouldnt have ended up at Iona. Regardless of Rick Petino.

His scoring has been unreal the last couple of games. But as posted above him can get up off the floor as well. He has made some great defensive plays where it looked like the other team had a easy break away layup.
