History. Dates way back (the first "international" game was between Scotland and England). They actually have 4 major teams (England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland). Gibraltar weirdly has one too. They would likely have several other World Cups if they played as the UK. It used to be funny back in the 00s when England had a big hole on the left wing (obligatory Too Hot joke) and possibly the best left wing of the time played for Wales.
