ITA Rankings Reveal Gators Pair at No. 3 - Florida Gators The Pre-Season ITA rankings are out. The team is ranked 19. But the Gators don't have a player ranked in the ITA Top 125 Women's Singles? Not since before Andy Brandi (RIP) transformed us into a national powerhouse and turned us into the premiere program in the country, along with Stanford, has this happened. Actually it's been since the late 70s when we've had players ranked in the AIAW (pre-NCAA) polls. I remember Cissie Donigan, who was best friends and on the same Girl Scouts with my older sister in grade school, was ranked in the AIAW top 10 in 1981-82. We do have the #3 ranked doubles team. Did we have a bad Fall season? Injuries? Or did players transfer out after the coaching change?
These fall rankings are always tilted for a number of reasons. Gailis is pretty clearly a top 25 type player, oliviera as well if she is fully back from injury Dudeney is a top 100 player, Lopez probably is too Unsure how the euro freshmen rank but they are talented. This isn't likely to be a contending team, but there could be top 10 potential if team meshes with new coach. Roland almost ran them into the ground, then leaves mid fall...gonna take a while
They actually played decent singles this weekend (awful doubles) without Gailis, Emily or Lopez....3 of the top 4 along with Dudeney. Nothing to get overly excited about, but it looks like there are some options for the lineup. Curious to see how the ladder looks once they settle into match play
Women won their first dual match today vs UNF...5=2 But like last week there was no Gailis, Emily, or Lopez. Uf forfeited #3 doubles and #6 singles, Spee lost her singles match. Really no idea what's going on with the 3 missing players....injury, playing other events, or something off court. Have seen no mention of anything. Obviously they can't survive like this and be competitive against sec teams so hopefully it's temporary
