The staff cleaning house. We're going to be portal heavy and there is no 25 counter limit for HS/JUCO recruits so we can sign however many as long as we're at 85
Interesting to think about actual numbers of players returning, players from portal, HS recruits ... 60-10-30 with additional spring in/out?
We will have more surprises of contributors not returning than surprises of noncontributors returning. There will be a lot of room for new faces.
Gator fans: We Want Better Players! Bad players leave Gator fans: Why are we losing all these players?
We do NOT have to flip the roster... That's dumb and reckless. But more than 27 players will leave... and that's a huge amount of players.
The portal changes football expectations for head coaches. We don’t need a complete roster turnover but I think we need massive UPGRADES at the following positions TE WR LB Safety CB DL QB Basically Rb and Oline are decent the other positions need help from the portal. And Oline could use a few bodies as well…
The ones that are leaving are those that simply cannot and will not see the field due to talent upgrades. These are not losses that will set the program back…they will actually move it forward.
addition by subtraction. If any of the ones that left, ends up at another P5 school and develops into an all conference player, i'd be shocked. I don't see that happening with any of the players whose entered the portal from UF so far
If tuition, room & board, food, entertainment, and transportation are all paid for, does it matter if you’re on scholarship?
Interestingly, none of the comments so far seem to have any connect w the OP. And I agree with the question. Will we have enough players to play a meaningful game? If we are going to have to use walk ons and end up getting killed, I don’t understand that as a ‘reward’ for the teams hard efforts.
We don't know when we'll play nor the opponent, so I don't think anyone really knows how this is going to shake out. Our opponent may be in the same situation, and heck it may be a national phenomenon - it's uncharted territory. Can't say I like it, but I certainly don't have any control other than to stop watching and supporting the sport financially. It's trending in that direction tbh, but I still love watching my Gators.
