It’s not always just talent but holes in certain areas. For instance, we have no pass rush. If you have a pass rush, it hides a lot of things
So the OL coaches are awful and Sale has no OC experience (and OL coaches usually suck as OCs) and you want to promote Sale to OC? Lol what?? Both of them should be fired.
Sale has OC experience because he is our OC, and therefore would not need to be promoted to that position. That aside, I'm fine with canning them both and since they are on expiring contracts that may be the ultimate outcome.
Sale is OC in name only as Napier calls the plays, similar to Gonzales/Hevesy being co-oc's first 2 years under Mullen until Mullen realized Brian Johnson is/was a rockstar and he needed some kinda promotion.
So they probably throw longer passes catch any number of our dbs badly out of position and score a td instead.
Other than Missouri last year, can you think of a time a coach was losing a bunch, brought in an OC and turned it around? I mean, I think he should do it …. But it almost always spells death. Which makes me think nobody will come. Reports are we are already past our 1st couple choices for DL coach. I think a quality OC will probably be the same. Ideally they grab Korn or Kade Bell and CBN takes his hands off the wheel
Can Billy buy another year with an OC ? If he goes 5-7 again, a distinct possibility, will the focus shift to giving *Billy with OC* another year ?
So Mullen wasn’t the real play caller.. LOL Brian Johnson hasn’t been getting much love in Philly not sure he’s the guru you think he was. ( And their O hasn’t looked the same all year compared to last year with not many changes roster wise).
in recent history…not much of a turn around but Cristobal at Miami last off season fired / replaced 7 of his 10 on field coaches after year 1, including both the OC and the DC. Improved from 5-7 to 7-5. Not a big turnaround but probably silenced some of the masses and allowing for another potential leap in year 3 (year 2 with 7 new coaches). Jimbo Fisher at FSU replaced 5 of his 9 coaches (but not the OC) in I think 2012/2013 and won national title that same season. So guess it is possible.
That national title was won on defense and Mark Stoops was the architect of the defense. They hired that slimeball Pruitt, who almost screwed it up. After a year, they sent him packing to jawja.
