You never played for BD. One time "dogging it" got you pulled and an earful. Guys would signal when they were gassed. I think you might not understand the intensity that Division I basketball can be. As for cramping being rare I am sure it is in rec league play but I see it all the time in Division I basketball. Almost never saw it in intramurals.
On the flip side I played on an intramural team where every guy was at least 40 years old. Many times the opposing side was laughing thinking they would run us off the court. Early in the second half they were hunched over grabbing the hems of their shorts heaving. Added in edit: A really funny intramural story and I was the coach. We were up one with a few seconds left and we had a foul to give. Of course I double checked with the refs about that. The other team called their last time out and called a play. I told my guys to foul with two or three seconds left near midcourt. The other team started cheering thinking they were shooting free throws but they were directed to inbound the ball at midcourt without a play called and no time outs. Hilarity ensued! LOL.
