Wide Receiver WR & Tight End TE recruiting 2022 and beyond discussion thread

Gotta see how the three TE’s from the last class turn out by next spring. They’re all interesting athletes. Have read that the UCLA transfer from Bucholtz who broke out in the spring is moving back to defense. He looked like a very good flex TE in the spring game.

 

Yeah, was surprised Gamble transferred. Zip and Elk need to give us 45-50 catches combined.

Gamble leaving was a blow, no doubt. Not sure why he left (he would have been a top target this year), but some of that is just inevitable in a coaching transition.

 

For what it's worth they changed Keeter from a LB to a TE on the roster after spring

 

I believe it was because the Tight end coach wasn't retained.

 

Huge surprise. Obviously a great athlete who will help us. Would love to see Elksnis emerge as a force.

 

A lot of love for Keeter. I put his over under on total catches for the year at 3.5. Year after year we have walk ons do some nice things in the spring. Been a real long time (Doering?) since any had an impact outside special teams. They will need to learn the offense but I’d expect 2 of the 3 freshmen tight ends along with Zipper, Zander’s, and Elksnismto get more run than Keeter. Hell, if Odom is still around after injury him too.

Not likely since Zander might get more catches than either of them. We still don't know where Keeter is going to fit in.

 

On Zanders, I’d like to agree as he looked great but has to get the opportunity. Love to see him get consistent opportunities.

 

Yes, he was. He was even before Doering. Rodney Weston was also a walk on from same era (80s). But since early 1990s and Doering, I hear all kinds of stories out of spring camps where a walk on does well and then come fall...never plays or maybe gets some special teams play.

Id expect same from Keeter this fall.

 

Saw we offered a TE out of Washington in 2024 Hogan Hansen.

 

They miss kids all the time. Of course we need the top 50 kids as they are known and pretty much universally agreed upon by the best coaches in the world. Hardworking coaches can find good talent for tge bottom half of the class though.

 

One difference in this case....Keeter was a power 5 scholarship kid (UCLA) that transferred back home. And will likely be on ship as soon as one is available. Hard to project his impact given the new staff, new position for him, etc. But I would tend to the over on that 3.5, in fact given this offense likely uses 2 TE often I would guess he easily does that

 

Walk-on with a full academic scholarship. Those were harder to get back then.

 

Read somewhere that he was moving back to OLB in the fall.

 

Can’t imagine he wouldn’t. Better blocker and better hands than Zip and can play both TE positions. He’s ideal for one TE formations. I think he starts off at #1 in the fall.
