If you watch the game film breakdowns put out ...they show wide open guys on nearly every play. Now, they don’t opine as to whether guys are open due to scheme or speed or route running skills...but there is always one or more guy open all the time.

Those were from scheming and some blown coverages at times. A good QB should be able to throw guys open like Trask did even when they appear to be covered.

I keep hearing about how fast he is but he never beats anybody deep and he does not seem fast on kickoff returns. His acceleration seems kinda slow.

He’s a long strider with good straight line speed like a Andre Debose. Issue is, he needs to bulk up a bit and be able to break a tackle and win one-on-one balls.

Yeah, not sure why Graham, Bowman, or Lingard never returned punts or kicks.

Hoping our special teams improve next year with Knox gone. Henderson was sure hands on punt returns.

He also takes very long strides which makes it difficult to cut.

  9. I really like the potential that Burke has.. He's a monster waiting to happen.

    No, he played.

2021: Saw action in eleven games this season… Registered a solo tackle and a forced fumble against Samford (Nov. 13)… Recorded three assisted tackles against Tennesse (Sept. 25).

Catching the ball is by far the most important skill in a return man. I haven’t seen them do it but who knows why. Mullen seemed content to take first and ten for whatever reason. Returns overall have become less of a thing for whatever reason.

Safety. They changed the rules to lessen those collisions and it killed the return games in college and in the NFL.

With no chance for explosives you really limit yourself. Good returns ( not even talking about taking it to the house) are worth an extra 2-3 scores a year.

When you eliminate possibility of explosives you eliminate points. It’s great to have to our possession guys back there that catch it and secure it, but we have others that can catch and secure that can also take it to the house. Billy will value possessions but he’ll have guys returning punts and kicks that can take kicks back.

Kick returns have been all but removed from the game. I guess there’s an opportunity in the punt return game.

Depends on philosophy but I agree to some degree about KR’s. You put the right guy back there and it’s a very productive change. We have the guys. Just have to give them the chance. To concede “we Just want to catch the ball and kick returns and punt returns and we are not worried about advancing it” is the wrong mindset.
