I’m not going to deny that some liberals do this, but come on… you have to be honest and admit that some conservatives do too. Not watching NFL or NBA due to kneeling, not buying Bud Light, not buying Nike, etc… there are many examples. Both sides do this.

You certainly didn't post any disclaimer about the numbers not being accurate (in fact, you tried to use those numbers to go after another poster later without outright admitting to those numbers being unreliable). Again, the initial estimate that you used was a sketchy organization who both inflated (by upping it a few thousand) and misinterpreted a statistic from another organization (total number of reports got turned into how many kids are taken- despite the explicit statement that this shouldn't be how you interpret that statistic by the group who put it out). They then applied a completely baseless multiple (1/3) as the number of children that were sex trafficked. Other estimates have the number at least one and sometimes two orders of magnitude less. That is a good thing, even if it meant that you got suckered by a sketchy organization to post unsupported numbers on a message board. Be happy that the 100,000+ estimate isn't close to true. I certainly am.

I said the numbers are all over the place because NO ONE has accurate numbers. So yes, you look like a fool for trying to diminish the numbers. You have no idea if the 100k estimate is true or not. You are guessing. I believe the number is lower, just don't know what it is. But you feel free to make it seem like it never happens. You are the one being insensitive. It's weird you didn't do this with the covid child death numbers that are/were inflated. Haven't seen you comment on how those are way off. Wonder why...

You certainly did not present the numbers initially as inaccurate at all (in fact, you tried to claim that the stats proved another poster wrong, as if the stats you used were accurate). You didn't admit to the numbers not being accurate until I started to show why they were inaccurate. You made no mention of them not being accurate.

And yes, we do have a clue that the 100K estimate is not true, because the other estimates are order (or orders) of magnitude less, even when including broader categories (such as adults and children instead of just children). Also, we can look at obvious mistakes that are hugely impactful to their estimate, such as assuming that every report was a separate child when the data explicitly says not to assume that because it isn't true, and then applying a completely made up multiple to that false information.

Again, be happy that the numbers you presented were false. That is good news. If you prefer, you could also choose to be upset that somebody is trying to make up statistics on this issue to raise money and sell hats. But still be happy that the reality is that it is far more rare than the people trying to sell you hats claimed it was.

The numbers wouldn't be important to you, because you are too ignorant to understand the numbers are always going to best guesses and to some degree even speculation on this issue. There's no way for them to accurately quantify the real true number of children being trafficked across the border each year, for obvious reasons. But there is one thing almost all sources agree on: the number is in the thousands and it's taken a sharp upturn due to the current situation at the border.

We don't have a way to accurately quantify the total amount of fentanyl coming across our border either, but U.S. Customs and Borders Protection reports they seized 50,000 pounds of fentanyl in 2022 alone. Obviously, that's only going to be a fraction of what actually makes it across the border, as cartels are indeed smuggling lots of fentanyl into the U.S. Not being able to accurately quantify the amount of fentanyl coming in makes it an even more dangerous situation and in no way lessens the problem. Nor does it excuse us from going all in to stop it.

I think you really need to take a step back and stop doubling down. It's not a good message you're portraying here.

Again, you are so minimizing that trafficking of kids happens. You die on that hill skippy. I didn’t even read what you wrote after the first sentence. You have zero data to show what’s right or not. The rest is being obtuse about something so serious.

It happens. Just not as much as you tried to claim. We should all be happy that my second statement is true (and unhappy that my first statement is as well).

No one is saying human trafficking doesn’t occur or isn’t horrific. In the contrary, everyone agrees that it does. Child abuse is really bad.
The conclusions on the “prolific” nature of it to create hysterics is what is being argued. Satanic blood cults, seriously?

I make fun of it, because that is my nature.

Anyone who points out the errors in your data instantly becomes a pedo, right? I have words for that and my opinion would probably get me banned. Who was the pompous rhino who wrote a book on the death of expertise? Facts do not matter because you can’t handle the truth.

    Go Gators

I hope he wasn't defending trafficking, but by being dishonest about it, it sure looks like he was defending it. I'm pretty sure this goes back to their stance on border enforcement. If they admit human trafficking into the U.S. is a problem and that there has been a sharp uptick in trafficking across the border the last couple of years, then they'd have to admit we have an issue at the border. This presents a new problem for them, because their king has an open borders policy and they can't speak ill of the king. So they double down on the worst positions and takes imaginable.

utter bullshit. Us vs them .

Illegal immigration has been a shat show for 50 years. I remember the feebs raiding Orange grove camps in the 70’s where the workers were being “held”. You probably have similar.

Where we agree. We think each other is clueless and misrepresenting the data?

    Go Gators its happy hour

I've probably forgotten more about data collection & measurement of crime than you'll know in a lifetime. But I guess for you to argue that I'm ignorant, you had to truncate my comment where I explained some of the issues in measuring child sex and abuse crimes, including child trafficking.

Agree. The numbers are in some ways best guesses, at least depending on what numbers & sources we're specifically talking about. If it's reported trafficking, that's not a best guess per se, but a reflection of what has been reported. However, these only show what's been reported, not all that occur. As you recognize, estimates or extrapolations taken from reported numbers suffer from the same problems affecting reporting, which is to say under-reporting. How much, we can only try to estimate but we'll never know the true numbers (and as I tried to make clear in my earlier comment this is particularly a problem with child sex/abuse crimes and sex crimes writ large).

Likewise with your fentanyl example, which I agree about too. Govt likes to tout when they capture large quantities of drugs, but we know this is only a tiny fraction. One of the key tell-tale signs that this has little effect on the illicit drug trade is how street prices remain unaffected by major drug busts.

Anyway, I have to wonder what the **** you're criticizing me about when your comments basically reflect arguments that I made in my previous post that you respond to (and truncated)?

He literally made this very point in the post that you partially quoted. Your accusatory tone is B.S. too. He's a criminologist and with that, the accuracy of the numbers would naturally be a point of interest for him.

Glad some on here told us that trafficking isn't prevalent in the US...

Several arrested, victims rescued in Bay Area for alleged human trafficking, officials say

Operation Cross Country, a nationwide effort to combat human trafficking, resulted in the identification or arrest of more than five dozen suspected human traffickers and more than 100 individuals accused of child sexual exploitation. Seventeen individual operations were recently conducted over a two-week period. Locally, agents arrested nine offenders. Three Bay Area Juvenile victims were recovered and another was identified.

The FBI says the operation successfully rescued a total of 200 victims of human trafficking and located 59 minor victims of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

    Right?
The weirdest and sickest of the libbies arguments in a long time…
Cons: Hey, there are children being abducted and sold to traffickers.
Libbies: well it’s not as many as you think.
    Gross.
