I wish there was a worst post ever option for Maverick take. Lol.

I thought TG Mav was great. Nostalgic and way better visuals. It’s an action movie so story isn’t the point. Being entertaining is.

Indy was ok but not great. I would have rather seen it more detective less action. Like they did with The Batman.

Tom Cruise may be the undisputed action champ of all time.

FTR, I liked it too. I’d give it a solid 3.5/5.

I liked it more than Indy.

But I mean we don’t even know the “enemy.” It was unconcerned about anything meaningful. TC still kicking ass, no man left behind, stellar visuals, even worked Ice Man back in. I will also be using this to tear the sheet rock down with my HT.

I paid the rare IMAX dough and felt good about it.

But if you were just describing the actual plot to The Aliens they’d be like “Hehe…humans.”

Ehh . . . I thought TG Maverick was a cliché and pretty weak. Maybe I'll give it another try, but my first impression was that it was corny and just going for the nostalgia factor.

I enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick. Must disagree that Tom Cruise is the action champ. But I did chuckle at the one poster saying that people don't like preachy movies. The top grossing movie in the world in 2022 by a wide margin was the new Avatar movie, a film that preaches about both environmentalism and colonialism.
Nothing wrong with nostalgia. Neither Top Gun film tried to be overly complex. They simply are what they are, entertaining.

Somehow I think the appeal to Avatar is the visual spectacle, not the "environmentalism" and "colonialism" angle. Remove the visual spectacle and nobody cares about Avatar.

Somehow, I think you're proving my point. People don't give a rat's ass how "preachy" a movie is. They want something interesting and entertaining.

No, they care. They're just willing tolerate it the more "interesting and entertaining" it is.

Now, there's a whole genre for political film and media, and that's its own niche. What pisses people off is the bait-and-switch of advertising a simple action movie/Disney movie/children's movie, then shoehorning "the message" in there that feels more like a slap to the face of the audience than a nod to it.

I don't think Avatar ever really hid the ball, but plot and narrative was never the primary appeal for those films in the first place.

Agree a bit cliche but better than expected. However imo it ripped off ideas from other movies which was lame.

“Yesterday we showed that movie 3,000 times at our 570 U.S. theatres and more than 100,000 people watched it at AMC Theatres. Misinformation on Twitter is astonishing. Bots? Haters?”

He added: “Sadly, conspiracy theorists are so prevalent in America. So much garbage information is spread. More than ONE MILLION people have watched Sound of Freedom at AMC Theatres. More than at any other theatre chain on the planet. Yet people falsely claim otherwise. It is so bizarre.”

AMC CEO Adam Aron. Probably trying to get in front of maga’s cancel culture based on conspiracies.

I haven't seen Top Gun. I used to watch Maverick on TV.

I'd like to see Tom Cruise make a movie about some ridiculous cult that calls itself a religion. I'll bet it could win him an Oscar.

On Caviezel and Qnon etc., I don't even know how he pronounces his name. Does it rhyme with evil (Ca-VEE-zel) or hell (CAV-e-zel)?

good point. It can detract from a movie. Especially if it’s a big budget “Walt Disney” type of movie/Star Wars series etc. I’m pro environment/pro-indigenous civilizations/avoid-war, and Avatar was too much. political points can be off putting, especially if it’s a viewpoint you disagree with. I’ve seen pro-life / pro-choice messages unexpectedly included, albeit a bit more subtle.

I also want to say to Donald Trump, then when you watch this movie, you will be at peace and at rest because you, more than anyone, have done incredible things Jesus talks about, that you know faith without works is dead," Caviezel said before comparing Trump to the biblical figure David.

I get that he’s a conservative Christian, but I don’t recall people talking about Reagan, Bush or other Republican leaders in this way. It’s so weird to me.

Like 30% of this country is whack a doodle crazy. I'm sure David cheated on all his wives and banged a porn star and then paid her off. These people are batshit living in a different reality than me.

The Biblical story of David is that he cheated on his wife w/ Bathsheba then ordered her husband back from a battle (so one could argue it was the husband’s child) and then to fight on the front lines, effectively murdering him. So, King David “a man after God’s own heart” did some pretty bad things.

This movie supposedly based on a true event... Have to see this movie for that reason alone, even though this is not the type of movie I would normally want to see.

I don’t know who the media is exactly, but the RT scores for Cuties and Sound of Freedom are 87% and 74%, respectively, so both have the approval of the majority of film critics.

Why does this entertainer have to comment on politics? Ugh, I’m offended. Just shut up and act.
