Why is Napier's buyout $26 Million when Kiffen's is only $4 Million?

Lol, like I told you last night/this morning, I’m all for watching someone try to structure these contracts with some semblance of financial responsibility. I’m just not overly confident they’ll be successful.

Might need some more reading since you don't appear to have his name down...

Other threads: Muh proven, back up the brinks truck, blank check
This thread: Surely somebody would jump at the opportunity to take a contract that the top names would never consider

Hearing he isn't repped by Sexton instantly makes him more attractive. Everytime I hear more stuff about Fisch I like him more.

This is the only explanation that makes any sense.

Everyone has the easy answer and the quick fix. Lot of overly simplistic views on both sides of the table. My opinion? I’m glad I don’t have to figure it out.

I've never said any of those things, quite the opposite.

I can also entertain what I believe is the innovative way forward, while understanding the pragmatic reality that with this much money in play the precieved "safe" approach will probably be the one chosen.

I don’t think he was singling you out. There is definitely a contingency that thinks simply spending more money will fix everything.

*I think both views are overly simplistic. There are situations where a fiscally responsible, incentive based contract could work. There are situations where paying the most could work. It’s also quite possible that neither of those things work, even if it feels like it should be a sure thing. Too many variables for a one size fits all approach. I won’t pretend to have all the answers. I’ll just continue to poke and prod the ones who think they do. :p

Can we change the misleading title to this thread? Kiffen's buyout isn't $4 million. Not even close.

I didn’t research it, but that is not surprising at all. Won’t stop it from being repeated anyway!

$4M is what Kiffen would owe if he left today. Should Ole Miss sever ties with Kiffin, it would prove costly. Kiffin is entitled to 80% of his remaining pay if the Rebels fire him without cause. If he were fired at the conclusion of the 2024 regular season on Nov. 30, the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation would be obligated to pay Kiffin roughly $36,590,000. A full $10M more than we would pay to fire Napier.

UF isn’t alone with the buyout issue. Prior to Kiffen getting to Ole Miss there were plenty of reasons NOT to lock him in at that cost. Like it or not, we weren’t the first big program to reportedly try to pull CBN from La. We were just the unfortunate ones that got to find out that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

This is easily explained. Good coaches make great money. Therefore.... if we pay him great money, he'll be a good coach. That's how it works, right?

You might want to read it again.

If Kiffin leaves Ole Miss before the end of 2024, HE owes them four million.

If they can him, THEY owe him $36 million, which gets adjusted over time.

Yes, but Florida would have to pay that $4M to Mississippi on top of the $26 M to Napier. So $30 M in buyout money before even starting to talk about a new contract for whatever coach is hired.

Okay, got it. I guess we are looking at it from our perspective.
