To be fair, our entire backend got burned the first few games. By the time JJ was healthy the floor in the secondary was raised considerably and he wasn’t a beneficiary of it.
No contesting that, and I wish he'd stay just to keep learning b/c I do feel he was rushed into action. But I understand his decision.
We had three young guys taking significant snaps inside and Lyons coming back. Thats four and they are young. Banks would be huge and a nice portal guy or two there is always welcome. Im dure our four young guys want their snaps next year.
Some read their headlines too much and get lazy and passed. That sophhmore slump is real and lights a fire sometimes. Not saying thats so for Kelby but he should be fully aware when he gets to his new team that time is growing short.

And opposing RBs know they aren’t going through him either. People bashing his effectiveness need to look at his film and PFF ratings. When he is in, the center and guard double team him to prevent the center from getting pushed back to the QB. It provides the rest of the DL 1v1 opportunities. He doesn’t get the sacks and TFLs, but his presence makes it easier for everyone else to grab stats. His job isn’t to get stats, but stuff the middle. At that, he doesn’t very well. What will potentially hurt him in NFL evaluations is that he can’t stay on the field for extended drives due to conditioning.
