The FAU teams were actually pretty impressive. Kiffin does a good job at utilizing what he has. He never had a stud QB or anything come into FAU. They had Jason Driskel in year 1. So instead he ran Devin Singletary right into the rushing TD leader in the nation that year and 8-0 in conference. Kiffin I think has red flags... but I think with NIL starting to get lined up correctly at UF, and this new age of recruiting, guys like Kiffin might be exactly what schools need. Superior Xs and Os... and just enough recruiting and personality to attract players and coaches
It was over for me when I saw the Miami players wooping it up, taunting players and fans with gator chomps, and talking smack about us to our recruits IN OUR OWN STADIUM. Franky, it was not just a loss, it was an embarrassment. I can deal with losing to a better team, but they simply kicked our A$$ up and down the field. One team looked prepared and was willing to play for their coach and the other looked unprepared and frankly awful. I would like for him to pull a rabbit out of his hat, but I have not seen improvement from day one to now. I would gladly like to regret every character on this post.
Cute, but I’m not sure you addressed either of the points I was making. First, this is a predictive thread. You predicted that Napier will still be here next year with as few as four wins. I challenge that prediction. I would love to be persuaded how the big money stays on board with a four-win season after the last two seasons. Defend that if you would. Second, I challenge the prediction that Napier will be here next season, regardless of performance, because we are now an “academic” school. We have always been an “academic” school. Nothing has changed in that regard. If you have a defense of that position, though, I’m listening.
Thank you for the correction, I came in second at the Camp o the Pines Box Hockey finals in 1973. Just kidding paid, hey I know Lane is popular with many here on the board. I get the attraction, and will admit he seems more tolerable now that he has grown up a bit. His offense has been exciting at Ole Miss and pundits are suggesting they (Ole Miss) may be a legit SEC contender this year. I'm just pointing out the beauty Queen has a few warts hidden under the bikini.
You guys arguing about being here in 2025...my guess is he doesn't make it to mid season when UCF comes into our house and beats us by 10 to an empty stadium. He may keep reaching in that hat for the rabbit but all Ive seen come out in two years is a hot brown turd every time.
It's especially bad when you consider Napier was essentially hired to be a new Zook who could bring our recruiting up to the standards of the top schools yet Miami out-recruited us last season and is out-recruiting us now. So if we have no schematic advantage over Miami to beat them that way and aren't getting better players than Miami to beat them that way, what exactly are we doing?
His offense has historically been pretty run heavy so that's not surprising. He's been successful offensively pretty much everywhere he's been so I don't think there's much to be debated there. The question (other than would he come) is can he put it all together or is he Mullen 2.0?
You’d be back channeling, but I definitely think some conversations could take place. Things could change between now and the end of the season, but assuming things kinda stay the same, a deal could be somewhat ironed out this early. If the target wins a natty or has a losing season, all bets are off. If the target has another 9-10 win season, still looks competent, is willing to move, and you can give them what they want, there’s no reason not to find out what it would take.
There's a lot of distance between putting it all together and Mullen 2.0. If he was Oregon under Chip Kelly where you are perpetually top 5-10 but not quite good enough to ever win it all, isn't that a pretty good accomplishment? We've seldom been better than that in 100 years.
Any improvement will be appreciated in the short term. After a few years we’ll be demanding trophies again though.
In my mind Mullen 2.0 is getting hired for doing well at a Mississippi school and being known for offense. Then having a bit of success but ultimately flaming out. If the next guy has us top 10 every year I'd say that's putting it all together.
Lol... just having some fun... I love reading everything everyone posts, even if I don't totally agree with it, there are almost always more times when we will agree than disagree here. 20 years... So you've seen quite a bit of ups and downs too. I hope Napier figures it out, but the natives here are wrestless, and some have completely given up. I still hold a sliver of hope that he figures out a way to salvage this season... to a respectable outcome. But I do not expect a miracle.
