I think many people are missing out on the point. Injuries can happen to any coach's team or any program. However, viewing the injuries in the conjunction with the dubious recruiting- MW's insistence in seeking players 6'6" and shorter year in and year out, his placid demeanor when officiating was overwhelmingly anti Gator (until he had to accept the fact that his job was on the line), and his acutely anemic in-game strategy and game planning which reared its head most notably after time outs called by him which resulted in turnovers or horrible shots or shot clock violations, renders the injury component just another nail in the proverbial coffin.
Of course Georgia would be happy. But only under a dismal 7 years of Mike White are we now comparing what once was a storied program to Georgia’s.

This is the problem with Florida basketball. Complacency with mediocrity. Fans comparing our program to UGA instead of UK or Baylor or Gonzaga. Making such a comment- that we should somehow pay homage to Mike White because at least we are better than Georgia - would have gotten you laughed out of these threads 10 years ago.

The first guy I responded to said Key was the only injury that made a difference. I thought egbunu’s injury made a big difference, and I thought Jitoboh’s injury made a small difference. I didn’t make any excuses or give any passes or say I was fine with mediocrity. I simply said I think those injuries hurt, and they would have hurt any program.

As far as the response to you, you said Georgia “will not tolerate” the product White put on the floor here. I disagree. I think they’d trade the last 7 years with us in a heartbeat, and if White can duplicate what he did here, he’ll have a job there for a long time. He’s better than any coach they’ve had in a long time, maybe ever. I didn’t compare us to Georgia or accept mediocrity or any of the other crap you’re projecting on me. I didn’t say I was happy with White’s record, I said Georgia would be happy with it. And I think they backed that up by paying us over a million dollars to hire him away from us.

Watching the UF/Iona game, I would checkout if Pitino was named our coach. Just can't stand him watching him. Reminds of what a scumbag.
    Time for new blood.

Georgia was 6-26 this year. Of course they would take 19-13 in a heart beat if White can do that in year 1 (or 2).

The problem is even Georgia probably gets “bored” if they are stuck at 19-13 after 7 years, or get to the tourney a few times then “regress” back to the bottom half of the SEC. Don’t kid yourselves. The average coaching tenure is well less than 7 years.

Yeah, Mark Fox lasted nine years there hovering around .500 in-conference. They eventually got tired of him.

Even Ole Miss eventually ran off Andy Kennedy after twelve years of .500 ball in-conference because they got tired of him and wanted a change. They're not better off.

People act like UF is unique in its expectations but it's really not. .500 ball in-conference doesn't cut it in year seven at just about any program.

Hey, I liked Dennis Felton :). He did make the NCAAs once after finishing at the bottom of the sec. Miracle in Atlanta.

He may be willing to come back in the future, but he has something special coming up next year. I don't think he would jump this year.

Probably not. I was in the Keys with my son's Boy Scout troop and saw a guy wearing a UGA cap and asked him if he follows G basketball. He said a little and I asked his thoughts on CMW. He said one man's garbage is another man's treasure. He said their fans will be trilled just to make the tournament and their bar is quite low.

fyi. Hugh Durham in the eighties was a decent Coach. Had Georgia in the final four even recruited Dominique Wilkins. Had his wife as a teacher in elementary school.

This is an interesting point, but I think that the reason you stay in Grant’s situation is so you have a great season that results in you getting a job the following year at a Florida. However, if you can get the Florida job right now, why not take it?

I don’t think you realize how many teams lose players the quality of Egbunu

If your season is relying on him then your margin of error is way too thin

Dayton is a solid job, and the A10 is always a solid conference. Plus he played there — maybe he wants to turn his alma mater into a powerhouse. He also may not want to take that risk
