Will Calipari NOW be on the hot seat? After all his #1 recruiting classes, he doesn't have much to show for it. He's not even winning SEC regular season and tournament titles any more. Now he's gotten knocked out of the NCAA tourney by a #15 seed!!!
While it’s funny, Cal ain’t going anywhere. Their fan base is furious, but Cal won’t shy away from the criticism. I think big time coaches expect it anyway.
Cal is the highest paid men’s basketball coach, and most people think he’s like The Godfather of the taint in the CBB world. A solid argument could be made that he should be fired. Although their regular season was strong, the disaster of last year and the post season disappointment of losing to a 15 seed is a pretty brutal 2 years for Kentucky basketball (throw in the COVID year, and it’s been 4 years since they made it out of the first round!). I assume he will be back, both because the buyout is probably ridiculous, but also because they probably don’t want to disrupt the pipeline of lottery picks. But a parting of ways would hardly be shocking either.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Cal move on…. maybe NBA. As I said with White, the steering currents of fan discontent can become very strong.
Yeah, can you imagine if Mike White lost to a 15? We would have fired him immediately...wait a minute...
For folks bring White into this.... First, funny how folks who say stop beating up on white step in at every moment to attack everyone who was (fairly or unfairly) critical of white. If you want the white debate to stop, maybe stop? Second, saying white would be fired by a "circular firing squad" at UF? The guy with national title at UK, .800 record at UK, many sec championships, and average finish in the top 10? Gator fans would be upset losing to St. Whoever, but we don't hold a candle to UK fans in hoops demand/commitment/fan idiocy. Guess this is meant as a funny attack on Gator fans who love hoops and were critical of MW to paint them as irrational, but the argument really just illustrates the overreactive defense of MW by some. Cal's record at UF hoops would make him a legend (though saying that makes me throw up a bit). Football? Different animal at UF.....
