Trump wants to visit China as president, WSJ reports | Reuters

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has told advisers he wants to travel to China after he takes office, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, quoting people familiar with the discussions.
Trump has expressed interest in traveling to China in his first 100 days in office, the report said, citing one of the people.
Trump's inauguration is Monday, and Chinese state news agencies said on Friday that Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will attend as Beijing stands ready to strengthen cooperation.

"Hey China! Pretend I'm a real President and I might not do those tariffs I've been babbling about. Also - wanna buy some crypto?"

So it’s dangerous for China to have the ability to access to our data and manipulate us via social media, but it is ok for American billionaires to do just that?

100% waited until the last minute so Trump can take all the credit despite him being the main driving force behind the ban to begin with, lol.

short honeymoon? i think that multiple powerful members of the house and senate have a real problem with djt and his billionaire best buddies (bbb) on this one. he just loves being fluffed by rich people, all those years in NYC when all the real money laughed at and mocked him. He's showing them now, selling out the country in the process, grifting the faithful for hundreds of millions

'Pushing back': Republican Senators reportedly just 'broke with Trump' on a key issue

Trump ally House Speaker Mike Johnson appeared on NBC's Meet The Press Sunday where he declared, "We will enforce the law" on the ban passed by Congress in the interest of national security.

"Shortly before Johnson's comments,Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., broke with Trump, too, celebrating the app’s ban that went into effect Sunday," the report states. “We commend Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft for following the law and halting operations with ByteDance and TikTok, and we encourage other companies to do the same. The law, after all, risks ruinous bankruptcy for any company who violates it,” Cotton and Ricketts wrote in a statement.

He added, "Now that the law has taken effect, there’s no legal basis for any kind of ‘extension’ of its effective date. For TikTok to come back online in the future, ByteDance must agree to a sale that satisfies the law’s qualified-divestiture requirements by severing all ties between TikTok and Communist China."

Cotton would later threaten "ruinous liability" for any company that followed President-elect Donald Trump's instructions by restoring access to the TikTok app after legislation banned it. "Any company that hosts, distributes, services, or otherwise facilitates communist-controlled TikTok could face hundreds of billions of dollars of ruinous liability under the law, not just from DOJ, but also under securities law, shareholder lawsuits, and state AGs. Think about it," the lawmaker said at the time.

GOP Senator Threatens Companies Working With Newly Restored TikTok

Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton issued a stern warning for companies working with TikTok, shortly after breaking with president-elect Donald Trump on the embattled platform’s shutdown.

“Any company that hosts, distributes, services, or otherwise facilitates communist-controlled TikTok could face hundreds of billions of dollars of ruinous liability under the law,” Cotton said on Sunday in response to a TikTok statement.
    ..............
Cotton and Nebraska Sen. Pete Ricketts, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, earlier released a joint statement urging companies to halt operations with TikTok.

“For TikTok to come back online in the future, ByteDance must agree to a sale that satisfies the law’s qualified-divestiture requirements by severing all ties between TikTok and Communist China,” Ricketts said.

Reporter: Why did you change your mind on tiktok?

Trump: I got to use it and lets be honest. Its an app mostly kids use. If China gets information on our kids...We have bigger things to worry about.

Esp on an issue like this.

I actually respect both viewpoints on this issue at a top level. It isn’t an easy issue, which makes it easy for a guy like Trump to play both sides. Social media in general is a societal cancer. I’d go so far as to far as say its turned 10’s of millions into junkies. There’s an economy of people making money peddling bs, they may as well be pimps and drug dealers. Yes, a lot of morons and older people are low hanging fruit for this, but I think it’s mainstreamed now. (the TikTok challenges skews much younger). It should be regulated, problem is the people most outspoken about TikTok just told us they were “free speech absolutists” and govt shouldn’t even have talked to them. You believe them? You trust them with your data?

The outspoken conservatives like Cotton who at least have a principled position got played again….and they will 100% flip flop and nobody will care.

He's going to completely sell us out to China. Just watch, no meaningful tariffs whatsoever. We'll be as dependent - if not more - on them in 4 years than we've ever been. Wouldn't be surprised if reindustrialization actually slows down under this chump and his band of losers.

Neither is ideal, but one is clearly more of a problem than the other. But don't worry. Trump and Musk have China's back. Elon's got a huge stack of chips on the CCP and you can bet he and Trump will be giving everything to make sure he keeps those chips, or even adds to the stack.

Meaningful tariffs that actually make us safer? Nah. The scumbags have some grifting to do.
