The visit is to the WHITE HOUSE, not to meet the President. That is and should be the honor, regardless who is in office

Pretty Blue...probably the most consistently liberal blue county in FL since Bill Clinton was prez.
Voting and Elections in Gainesville, Florida - GeoStat.org

You are right that the more rural areas of the county are more conservative, but those are much lower population areas.

Its not even Gator City now.

    Home - MacDinton's Irish Pub

A chain establishment like almost everything else :(

Just that Gainesville is and was largely a liberal, democrat city and at least in my time living here has never been considered Red or conservative although it has become more of the former and less of the latter as time has passed. It has nothing to do with the student population IMO which never turns out to vote except in the general presidential elections.

I could have been wrong. We got the student district to come out in droves as we turned the bill I was speaking of. Partying was a right they wanted lol. Of course as I said the redistricting or some would say gerrymandering fixed that up fast quick. Either way it was my only foray into politics and I’ve NEVER returned. In 97-98 or so it sure seemed that way to me. I could be and could have been wrong but we did replace the seat on the city council to vote with us for a year so we were successful. A little too successful.
