But it was like their only win under Devoe. Lol

but man that game was fun to attend. I recorded it in vhs too but can’t find it anywhere. Have tried to find it on YouTube or for sale in any format and can’t find it anywhere. Game was played 2-27-1990. The game at lsu a month earlier I can find online but not the magical game at Uf. Dickie V did a great job that game. We had no cable tv in my apartment that year so watched the game like 100 times.

Well, he has a degree in Marketing and has worked in PR and as an assistant AD and AD at major universities his whole career. That's what we have, more of the same.

I sense the fault is not him so much as a somewhat antiquated way that sports may be managed and dependent on the hero coaches and their staff for much more than teaching, development and game day play. SS need to get his backside over to the Engineering school to learn about Lean and Quality Management systems so he can get away from the hero model. When a player, coach or some other employee leaves the system survives and carries on - not so depend on a hero to make it work. With such lows and highs it seems like we're stuck hoping the heros will save the day or folks aren't on the same page.

The original claim was worst team since '74. You are trying to move the goal posts. I loved Poole & Chatman and I was at every home game during the 88/89/90 seasons. Schintzius too - all great players. I think your bias shows, though, when you dismiss our "tiny, terrible guards." That's not very Gatorly of you, is it? And I'm not sure what you are suggesting, was the 89-90 team the last worst team, or would you somehow expect that 7-21 team to kill our tiny guards and weak post presence? Remember that a few of those key players quit that team.

There were several other Gator teams that left something to be desired. Some of the Werner days come to mind. I'm hoping this team can light a match and get something going. Heck, the 88-89 Gators featuring Schintzius started the season . . . wait for it . . . 7 - 7 . . . losing to every good team they played up to that point. They lost the next one to KY and then went on a streak to end the season 21 - 13.

Let's see at season's end if this is indeed the worst team since 1980. If yes, I'll gladly buy you a beer should we ever meet.

it is tough to stay positive as a Gator fan, I try to wait to the end of the game, then take a deep breath and not go all negative when we turn the ball over forcing shots, hero ball and passes you can see that the defense easily takes away from us. Not forgetting to mention, silly technicals. Yes, I agree we are all frustrated. I, like a sadist keep coming back for more. Here’s to a complete turnaround for our beloved Gator Basketball team!

He...stays the course. The higher ups knew exactly what they were hiring when they went out and got him.

Both the Dons and the Gators sitting in last place in their conferences. Just such a bad look.
Basketball can be turned around quickly with a single dominant player, but you still have to coach and develop the players on your roster.
I 100% hope Golden proves me wrong, but i'm not sold at all.

White is at his peak and Golden is at his low point. Remember what a good year white had here in year 1 only to plummet. We will be fine and Golden will build a monster in Gainesville.

Hope your are right. While I don't share your optimism, it's just too soon to tell. He'll be here at least 2 more years to be given a chance. The last 4 years, our recruiting rankings in the SEC have been 11, 11, 10, 10 so how can anyone expect us to do better with these guys???

DeVoe was once described as a no nonsense coach hired into a nonsense program.

DeVoe had many great UT teams and was fired to bring in Wade Houston who would bring in his son Alan Houston. Wade Houston was 65-90 over five season so I guess that UT got what they deserved. DeVoe made the NCAA's 6 times in 11 years when many fewer teams made the Dance. He even won an SEC title.

He was an accomplished coach but probably the wrong hire for UF at that time.

The fact that we somehow lucked into Kruger as coach after DeVoe was a shock to me when it happened.

He went to the NIT in year one. Made the elite 8 in year two, and had tourney teams the next four years. He was consistently mediocre, but there was never really a plummet. Certainly not from year one to year two. Maybe last year, but he was still only one game away from a 20 win season.

Wade Houston was a terrible coach. Terrible. Alan was a good college player but not nearly the world-beater UT thought they were getting.

Kruger will be an honored guest at the booster function tomorrow before the Gator tipoff. I'll be there and maybe get to shake his hand and ask about Da Meat Hook and Da Clerk and Da Flyin' Finn. Then it's across the street to the ConDome.
