I think he's matured a good bit since his jerk days at UT and a few other places. Ole Miss fans I know love him. Clearly he runs an exciting offense and can recruit QBs. (ole miss currently has 3 good ones).
Not sure I'd want him at UF but he won 10 games in year 2 at ole miss and has a winning sec record, not an easy thing to do at ole miss. He just beat LSU.

I just pray the Aggies don't go after him with all their resources.

He is still relatively young and I think still has a lot of upside. He’s already an elite offensive mind and getting better as a HC every day.

Cheating is the name of the game, it’s just who is allowed to cheat tge most. Everyone paying their players seems to be leveling the playing field a bit and creating some parity. Now it’ll be the deepest pockets getting players instead of the ones being allowed to cheat the most. It ducks but I like this so much better than pretending Bama hasn’t been buying classes all along.

Wanne - I keep reading posts about a Universities "commitment" to football or lack thereof.

ESPECIALLY fans here. Apparently some posters are critical of UF being a top academic institution because it "costs" the football program.

Which is about as dumb a comment as I have ever heard. Last I checked UFs charter and mission is education not football.

I think what they really mean is that the University and its boosters are not committed enough to be scumbag liars, cheaters and thieves, ala Bama and Auburn types to give their programs recruiting edges whatever the cost. The difference between Bama and Auburn being Bama is more politically connected and slick about their institutional cheating as compared to Auburn.

Pretty sick in my opinion. Talk about the cart before the horse When defining what is really important about College.

Well if being a sold out bunch of corrupt thieves is what is required, I will take top Academics and a 6-5 record over a top football program every day of the week and a month of Sundays. Or just become a no fun league fan, which, BTW is what College Football is rapidly becoming.

blaming academics is really ridiculous. Football players are football players and does not affect a guy in a class anywhere. They are two completely separate entities and should be treated as such. They have move forward a little bit with this nil stuff but it is still illegal to pay players to play football for your school. That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard of. What kind of charade is this? Just call a duck a duck and get over it.

It wouldn't be long for him to get killed here. He can't win a big game and loses games he should win but continues to tweet and needle opponents. I can see the headline now- he needs to spend last time tweeting and more coaching. No thanks on him, they will loose 3-4 games as they do in their "good years" and thats not what I want here.

    Agree.

I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive.

The school doesn’t prevent the FB program from recruiting any more than most other top programs.

Here is how I look at it when I say ever facet of the program needs to be in if UF wants to compete with the big boys. If you took 100 people (fans, alumni, faculty, administration, students) from Bama, UF, UGA, OSU etc. and asked them what was more important to them: Winning Football or Academics. I’m guessing for the big programs it would be predominantly winning football. I think UF would be academics. We see that on here.

Do I have a problem with that? No. I just think the all in isn’t there for UF.

I think of the classic SEC graduate as Joe insurance/car salesman willing to fudge the books so his team wins. They live and die by that school connection. That may have been UF graduates decades ago and I know we still have them, but I think it’s less. I don’t know about you but the student body is a lot different than when I went. UF is an odd ball in an SEC crowd IMO.

    Just my opinion folks.

I have NEVER considered UF a typical SEC school. Demographics are quite different (I suspect) I can site no statistics to prove or disprove that, just a belief.

I also believe that most SEC programs and those that ran the SEC perceived UF differently and until SOS, when UF was not a contender as that "Yankee School" in the SEC. I base that on things read over the years, the BS the SEC pulled on Galen Hall and SOS, and most of all articles written by Franz Beard.

I think that changed somewhat recently but is still a prevalent attitude among University President's and the SEC in general.

  16. I liked it better when we were a top 40 academic university and at the top in football...

My degree carried just as much weight then as it does now and we weren't the laughingstock of college football.

Not a chance. He could not handle the heat with either of those programs. He’s where he needs to be. I don’t understand the allure. Is it because of the sexy offense? …because he has the maturity of a 10th grade skateboarder …and no way in hell would I give him the keys to a top tier P5 program.

We've always been an oddball school. Most male fans went to games in shirt and tie. We went to games in t-shirts and baggies. Their fans came from the South. Ours came from everywhere, especially up Nawth.

If UF can employ (and win multiple championships under) a guy like Urban Meyer, then they're certainly not above employing those other coaches.
