This is in general but this past college football season had a lot of shootouts than I remember.

Watching that record-setting Peach fuzz game makes me agree.

Maybe it's time to let defensive guys, esp DBs play defense without all the penalties or start calling holding and pick plays on the offense. Just a thought.

Fans don't want 3 yards and a cloud of dust, players don't want to play in that offense either.

I remember watching Arena(?) league football. Played on a small field, indoor b ball arenas, super high scoring. Thought to myself way back then, these young guys have grown up on Madden and football video games-little defense -all offense. It's what they like it's what they want...it is the inevitable future. Add in the no concussions safety rules and that gives the O even more of an advantage. BTW both games in the college playoff yesterday could have been changed completely with late game targeting plays called the other way. I don't think defense will ever be the same and I miss it, but I do get player safety is paramount.

True, but we are a long way from that.

I'm sure offense guys love the current rules, but have to wonder how the defensive guys feel.

We can reflect on how it used to be but can they? Maybe they just see it as the rules as they are today. Crummy as they are, it didn’t change in their careers…..

Sure...what the heck. Lets get rid of pads and just go to 7 on 7 flag football game. They can still call it football. Sooner or later the old-timers will die out and nobody will know the difference.

And the Dawgs have to face the team that nearly ran out of the stadium that demolished the Buckeyes.

I don't think I would describe the Michigan/TCU game that way. Pick sixes, among other huge blunders, doomed Meatchicken. Not that I am upset by it, but some very odd things happened in that game, and they all hurt Michigan.

Good defense is a dying breed in College Football the way it is now. Offense sells tickets and wins games.

Plus most of the rules & enforcement favor the offense. The lack of enforcement in regards to offensive holding is the big cog, imho.

Holding by olines has become ridiculous. Yes, there’s holding on every play and sometimes a player has to basically be bearhugged to get a flag. Then a teams first down is called back and we need instant replay and a debate to decide if we think it’s holding. They pretty much accept holding if they keep the arms in tight.
