So I keep hearing from the president and others that all of their actions are to stop corruption and save tax payers money. But all the money they’re not spending has already been appropriated. And the most recent spending proposals I’ve seen in Congress have shown higher spending not lower. So my question is when do we, the taxpayers, get our money back? When does the average American (or even above average American by income) benefit from what’s currently happening?

Quick math if we save 1 trillion dollars that's a refund of like 2,800$ per person. That's assuming none of it gets applied to the deficit or new subsidies like the one that just went through for the Tesla Cyber truck.

Don't get me wrong I'll take $2,800 in my pocket. But this is a big shell game for show

It's all just distraction and deception for the rubes.

While they commit crimes and break the law.

It's not like we haven't seen this criminal clown show before. And if they cared about $$ they'd target DoD, entitlements and spending.

    Again, just criminal liars lying.

    @#$%&n rocket scientists...

    We owe 36 Trillion Dollars.

We spend >1 Trillion than we take in every. Single. @%#@%n. Year.

When we *save* a Trillion dollars, that only means we are accruing a Trillion dollars less in new debt.

We are light years away from refunds.

...but y'all do realize that we can not continue adding debt on debt, and borrowing ever more indefinitely, to pay more interest upon interest right?

At some point, a grown up had to come along to break the habit.

(Or we just spend until we are broken. Guess that's what yall--and the Chicoms--passionately desire....).

    ^^^What he said!!!^^^

Trump owning the dems and their ignorance.

Though I continue to get a chuckle as the dems throw their little child like tantrums. It is even cute at times.

Correct. this is how government fund accounting works and a budget surplus in a department. However, the reality is that the excess funds over a budget (if ever) would be reallocated to another pet project. The department by department budget reduction in cost would manifest itself in the next year budget being lower, which should in theory result in a lower yearly debt growth.

If Trump ("You're Fired!") were to get rid of 25% of government workers, it would reduce the deficit by 1%. I don't know what it would do to the unemployment rate.

Under Clinton we were reducing the debt, but under Bush he went to war every country in the Middle East except the one who attacked us on 9/11, and he put it all on the government credit card.

Having said that, come on man. The Republican plan has always been to run up the debt and then say we can’t afford Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. We all know that, but where’s all the outrage from the republicans when it comes to their travel expenses, or wasting your money and mine by constantly filing or provoking lawsuits that are often impossible to win? How about the hundreds of golf outings Trump took, or the trip to Hungry over July 4th to learn how to turn a democracy into an authoritarian government?

Everyone is in favor of cutting unnecessary spending but to start paying down the debt we’re going to have to start taxing the ultra rich rather than giving them more tax cuts.

First, you have to go to Twitter and find someone peddling the savings lie. You might start with the guy who just told us he can’t figure out what are lies or not and posts one about every 10 minutes.

There are 2.3 Million Federal employees, so a reduction of 25% would mean 575000 people without jobs, not including contractors where contracts would be cancelled. There are usually a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio of contractors to gov employees industry wide, so lets just say with 3:1, 1.725 Million contractors would be gone. That would equate to over 2 Million jobs cut globally.

You math geniuses are aware that despite the lack of spending by Trump Congress is asking for even more money… right? So… no change to deficit.

Not to mention the money already appropriated has already been spent. It’s not like Trump can send it back.

Correct, I have this conversation at work all the time. The problem with govt contracting and spending is we are put in buckets of $ per year. By law, I cant move money from one fiscal year to another without trading with another govt program because the money is set by congress.

To make matters worse, we are usually in CR from Oct 1st through Dec-March. We are in a CR right now, so we cant award contracts with FY25 funds until congress passes the funding bill in March (hopefully)... That causes planned schedules to slide right and our contractors like Boeing add costs associated with estimates in proposals or manpower or inflation, and there isnt much we can do because we asked for a proposal with certain initial conditions...

If they want to save $, pass the budget on time so every year Oct 1st we are ready to execute as planned.

The funny part is the right wingers thing we're actually going to reduce the deficit. What happens when you cut spending by 1 trillion and cut taxes by 2 trillion?

Elon suggested giving back the Consumer Protection agencies $700M, which would put $2 in every American’s pocket at the expect of protecting them against fraud, overdraft fees, etc..
