What it said in my research was that it is because of weather events, way too many uninsured drivers, and some guy named Homer.

Concerns as Florida seeks to ban civilian police oversight agencies | WLRN

More than two dozen cities and counties in Florida could lose their independent, civilian-run police oversight agencies if a bill filed in the Florida Legislature becomes law.

The bill would effectively ban civilian oversight of police departments in Florida, and only allow police to investigate and hold themselves accountable for any potential wrongdoing.

Advocates say the prospective ban on civilian oversight of policing would betray efforts to foster better relations and trust among police and communities.

“Investigations that are done completely in-house, where information only comes and goes from internal elements to the law enforcement agency — there just tends to be less trust in that process,” said Cameron McElhinney, the Executive Director for the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement, a national group.

surprising nobody, desi comes out in support of the satanic slayer. i can see a WWE wrestler/promoter relationship developing between the two.

'Read the First Amendment': Ron DeSantis slammed for backing Michael Cassidy after satanic statue demolition (msn.com)

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis stated that the Satanic Temple "should not be recognized" by the US government as a religion.
    ............................
DeSantis wrote on X, "Satan has no place in our society and should not be recognized as a 'religion' by the federal government. I'll chip in to contribute to this veteran's legal defense fund."

"Good prevails over evil -- that's the American spirit," he added.

At this point, it seems pretty clear that DeSantis is mentally ill.

He is who he says he is. If you don’t think exactly like him, you are wrong, there is no room for independent thought or critical thinking.

Likely why his pac team is quitting. Ron and Casey make all decisions, whether they are capable of or legally allowed to doesn't matter.

I can’t link the list here because it’s subscriber only but the Orlando Sentinel published a list of the 673 books pulled from teachers classroom shelves in Orange County. Among them A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (I read this 50 years ago in jr high), Paradise Lost (written in 1667), and The Firm by Grisham. This is full on nuts.

Happening in plain sight and some of you STILL don’t get it. The state has argued that libraries exist to push the government’s viewpoint.

I always feel like I need a shower after i catch up on this thread. Desi tarnishes Florida's image more than Floridaman stories.

Also philosophically incongruent to their push for “parental rights” in schools, which at least in theory would get more citizen involvement (even if we know in practice is more partisan activists).

Just shows it’s in no way about principle, it’s just about whatever group they are pandering to at a particular time.

Obviously the “mom’s for liberty” coordinating is 100% social warrior issues. Not sure who would actually think outlawing citizen police oversight is a good thing, except maybe corrupt/criminal cops and corrupt politicians.
