I think you’re giving DeSantis too much credit. What if he is really a true believer in his extremism? Everything he has done so far adds up to him believing his a true ideological believer. To be sure, HE DOES WHAT HE SAYS.

Putting those uppity types in their place, with some Orwellian dialogue about “truthful history”

The task force has conducted the summer institute for several years, and it had more than 300 people registered to attend this month. One week before its start, though, Education Commissioner Manny Diaz named six new members to the 11-person panel.

The new majority included several Floridians, all Black, whom Gov. Ron DeSantis has named to other posts. Among them are state Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole, and former Pinellas school board member Glen Gilzean, who recently took over the newly revamped Disney improvement district. Neither could be reached for comment.

During a 100-minute meeting Wednesday, Jacques said it would be “prudent” to know what the final standards say, and to incorporate them into the institute “so there’s not mixed messages going into the school year.” Other new members shared that view, suggesting that in waiting, the state could ensure that “truthful African American history” could be disseminated.

Waiting also would give a space for the state to “correct misinformation put out by the media that the governor and Department of Education are somehow stifling the teaching of African American history and that teachers are suppressed,” said new member Frances Presley Rice, a co-founder of the Yocum African American History Association and chairperson of the National Black Republican Association.

    Defying DeSantis hate message

Berman said St. Petersburg police this year wrapped the surrounding chain-link fence with black fabric to give families safety and privacy from anyone who could take photos to misconstrue events. She said police also swept every vendor vehicle in the park and worked with the FBI to deter any threats.

St. Pete Pride is Florida’s largest celebration, with events held throughout the month of June, which is Pride month. After retaining lawyers and meeting with police, the organization did not change any of its programming in light of new state laws that prohibit drag shows with “lewd” performances in front of children.

Gotta wait for the Ministry of Truth to tell them what the "truthful" history is.

And with Glasnow just getting started and Fairbanks due back soon to help the pen.
Just gotta stop the injury virus that seems to be running through the rotation and somehow get Brandon Lowe to show up.

I was coming back from that game, slightly inebriated with my wife driving, when I posted that. But we did get some offense production yesterday from the second base position with Taylor Walls, although Vidal with a very costly error the day before. In the last two days, two starters that will be on the all-star roster had one bad inning against an opposing great offense but otherwise dominated

I would have preferred they brought up Aranda as Lowe's replacement rather than Brujan. Aranda's been on a tear lately at Durham. I really like Basabe too. I think Brujan is the 3rd best 2B at Durham, but maybe the Rays feel he is currently most MLB ready of the 3.

Brujan not too long ago was considered more surefire than a lot of current stars. Crazy. He doesn't even look comfortable out there. Not sure on thinking but I have learned to trust this front office. Many moves that seem inexplicable get explained later and make more sense. Hopefully this one will too

Yeah, and Aranda's brief stint with the Rays last year wasn't great. But I think he's going to be a good hitter for the Rays eventually. Brujan I don't think ever will be. But all I can see are their minor league batting and fielding stats. Obviously the Rays know these guys far better than just stats on a page.

DeSantis: Even Gorsuch Kavanaugh and Barrett are not extreme enough; only Alito and Thomas far enough right.

    Wow. He is terrible.

Is this accurate? Interesting issue if so.

Florida's nude beaches pose a problem for Ron DeSantis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been accused of hypocrisy for enacting a ban on minors attending drag shows, but allowing children at nude beaches in the state.

Ahead of announcing his run for president, DeSantis cultivated a national profile by taking on culture war topics and fiercely pursued policies in Florida that restrict the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

GROOMERS! Desantis is a groomer. We all see it. Why not ban nude beaches? I'd love to hear the rationale by our resident excuse makers for him. Attack Disney but can't even do the right thing with nude beaches. As long as it is HIS grooming, he is ok with it. I bet there's a pizza parlor in Tally that he frequents.

I didn't realize that there are nude beaches in Florida - much less that there are purportedly no age restrictions for them. I'm almost skeptical of the reporting but the little search I did seemed to suggest that there are such beaches, and I didn't see reference to any age limits.

Yes, there are a few and any age limit should be applied to the upper bound.

Apparently, learning Rosa Parks was black is now on a strictly "need to know" basis.

Forcing out the State Surgeon General for excess truth and closing a testing cite in spite doe to a critical local mayor, like Chris Christie with traffic

Worried about the spread of the virus in crowded Miami Beach, Mayor Dan Gelber became a DeSantis foil, frequently appearing on local and national media criticizing the governor.

The state fired back by moving to close a state-run testing site on Miami Beach, according to Gelber and Jared Moskowitz, the state director of Emergency Management at the time.

Gelber told DeFede he learned about the effort when Moskowitz called to tell him the governor was upset about his criticism, including a letter he’d sent to DeSantis in September of 2020.

“Jared asked if I had written a critical letter of (Gov. DeSantis). I said yes,” Gelber wrote in a note to himself memorializing the conversation, according to the documentary. “He said (the governor’s chief of staff) had called him after the letter was public pointing it out and directing him to close the entire testing site on (Miami Beach) because of my letter.”

MLB minor league players are not entitled to minimum wage protection in the state anymore

and 1 day after the legislation was filed by a desi and the gang charter member, poof, a $1M donation to his superpac from a MLB owner

Ron DeSantis Signs Bill to Stop Florida Baseball Players Making Minimum Wage (newsweek.com)

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill into law that will allow minor league baseball players to be paid less than the state's minimum wage after the measure passed the legislature.

DeSantis, a Republican, signed the bill known as SB 892 on Monday following the legislation's unanimous approval in the state's Republican-controlled senate, while all but one Democrat in the Florida House opposed the measure.
    .....................
"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis just signed a bill sought by billionaire owners of Major League Baseball teams that cuts minor league baseball players off from the minimum wage," Garcia wrote.

"One day after this legislation was filed in Tallahassee, Joe Ricketts, the billionaire founder of TD Ameritrade whose kids own the Chicago Cubs, gave DeSantis a $1 million donation," he added.

Good stuff. Bad part is the heavy construction market is already stretched thin. Good to be a drainage, concrete, dirt, paving, utility contractor right now except for undocumented employees or married to them are leaving.
This much needed infrastructure will also open up land for development. Skeptic in me says cross reference owners of large tracts (1000 acres??) with donor lists to see which projects got funded and where. Maybe an enterprising journalist somewhere?

Budget appears to be spending allocated money from years in the future, ie reallocating and binding funding that was previously allocated to other budgets. That and what appears to be excess covid funds. Need a lawyer/accountant to explain to me the funding sources. Hopefully it includes $ for water/sewer.
