Was just talking to a nephew here in Oregon. He had grown up in Florida first then later Alabama but moved to Oregon for college. He said at first years ago when he got to Oregon when asked he would say he was from Florida, but now due to the idiocy in FL he’s more comfortable saying he’s from Alabama.

More layoffs. Watching DeSantis's campaign go down in flames has been one of the most satisfying things ever.

Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign has laid off more than one-third of its staff, the campaign confirmed to the Miami Herald, part of an additional cost-cutting measure from the governor amid a disappointing start to the GOP primary.

DeSantis campaign lays off 38, more than a third of total staff

    Desi a big WWE fan
Has private shows for his family. Who knew?

    MSN

After discussing numerous issues currently going on in Florida, as well as stating her disbelief that she lived there, De Lander revealed that, during her time in "NXT," she was called to the WWE Performance Center on a Saturday to perform a private show for DeSantis and his family, and subsequently met the governor and presidential hopeful. Both De Lander and the interviewer noted the irony of DeSantis being against drag shows, but being in favor of pro wrestling.

He is only 44. If this campaign does fail, I wonder if he'll still be viable in 2028 or beyond ...

If all goes well with his personality transplant, it’s possible.

Under the old rules of Politics, he wouldn’t be. Nixon was the exception which proves the rule. But none of the normal rules apply now, or at least since 2016.

Funny piece. So true about non-Floridians thinking alligators are a big threat

Perry is not alone. Thousands of new residents have poured into Florida in recent years. That migration came alongside the rise of a newsmaking governor who has worked to reshape the state in ways that have delighted supporters and appalled many liberals. With all that came even more national media attention for a place that long loomed cartoonishly large in American culture — perceived as beautiful yet rife with weird crime, extreme weather and dangerous wildlife. Some Florida transplants say all that attention and controversy lead to frequent check-ins from out-of-state friends and family who follow the news, especially if the place they call “back home” leans left politically.

“I’ve definitely gotten the ‘Are you OK?’ texts,” said Tampa’s Riley Elizabeth, 21. Others said they’ve received an even more direct “WTF?” more than once. Another recent arrival described feeling like people must be seeing more DeSantis news in South Bend, Indiana, than most people see in Florida.

Kayla Steinberg, a 30-year-old hospital recruiter, moved to Pinellas Park from Milwaukee a year ago. In May, her phone lit up out of nowhere with an all-caps text from a friend in Wisconsin.

“It’s a calm Wednesday afternoon,” Steinberg said, “and I get, ‘WOW YOUR GOVERNOR IS THE LITERAL DEVIL’.” DeSantis had signed a new immigration bill. She’d gotten another disapproving comment from another out-of-state friend about another Florida policy making headlines just a day before she spoke to the Times.

Moving to Florida? Expect the concerned check-ins.

You cannot begin to imagine the number of calls I answered that began something like “Hello, we just moved down here from Ohio/Indiana/Wisconsin and built a wonderful home on a canal but now there are alligators in it and we have grandkids so could you please come get the alligators?”

Script was nearly the same after they saw their first bear.

That is so funny. Because they really aren't dangerous generally. Obviously a small dog could be in trouble. And my brother has talked about being in the Everglades during mating season.

One other funny wildlife note. We used to make fun of tourists on the beach remarking the first time they saw a pelican as if it was something rare, when they'd see another hundred in the next hour. But we did the exact same thing in Alaska with bald eagles

Went back and found the posts about the Rays. It's just been a brutal month. Worst team in the AL for the month of July. Why do the Rays suffer so many injuries? Sounds like Eflin went down today, Diaz yesterday. Before July I was hoping the Rays would add a decent starter and a decent reliever before the trade deadline. Now I'm not so sure. Why throw away the future to try to salvage an injury-ruined season?
