It used to be I thought DeSantis would have a better chance at winning the general election than Trump would. But now I think it's the other way around. DeSantis has done so much damage to himself and has become so toxic that I really doubt he can win the general. And he doesn't have Trump's cult draw so his turnout would likely be lower. Either way, it's unbelievable how effed up the Republican Party has become when the 2 frontrunners are Trump and DeSantis.

agree. My guess is that simply by entering the race, Bootsie has lost a min of 5% of the insane clown posse & if he were to beat Trump, I think that # goes up. the ICP will gladly put party over country, but a core of 'em won't put party over Trump - just the way Trump likes it.

he repays his debts too. $92 million to raise property values exponentially for a good friend and supporter. One high end golf simulator installed for free in the guvnr mansion (no disclosure) and a few hundred thousand to the superpac in exchange for $92M and direct access to the interstate...sold, dude got a great ROI

and desi used excess covid funds to reward his buddy. Thanks Joe

DeSantis donor gets $92 million windfall from Florida? Is he draining the swamp or mired in it? | Opinion (yahoo.com)

The latest: Right after the governor’s reelection, the DeSantis administration directed an enormous sum of COVID relief money — $92 million — to a Florida developer and major political donor for a highway interchange near Daytona Beach next to the developer’s new housing and shopping development, The Washington Post reported. That’s $92 million in federal COVID money that was part of the American Rescue Plan, the same plan DeSantis has derided as “Washington at its worst.”

And the developer who stands to benefit? None other than Mori Hosseini, the politically connected Floridian who, we found out last week, “loaned” a pricey golf simulator to the Governor’s Mansion in 2019. (DeSantis plays a lot of golf.) A golf simulator runs at least $27,500 and up to about $69,000 for the deluxe version. Installing it in the mansion doesn’t violate any rules, apparently, because it was a loan made to the mansion, rather than being an outright gift to the governor.
    .............................
Among Hosseini’s other links to the DeSantis administration, as revealed so far: He apparently has allowed the governor and his wife, Casey, to use his private plane, according to reports. Companies controlled by Hosseini have given at least $361,000 to DeSantis-linked political groups for his reelection, The Washington Post said. And Hosseini, a University of Florida trustee whom DeSantis reappointed to that post, also was instrumental in helping the governor arrange a golfing session at Georgia’s Augusta National Golf Club in 2018, the Tampa Bay Times has reported.

Now his development winds up with shiny new, taxpayer-financed exits from Interstate 95. Without the new interchange, people might have to drive a whole three or four miles out of their way. The Washington Post said that, according to state documents, the decision by the DeSantis administration to use Florida stimulus money to help pay for the new interchange “expedited the project by more than a decade.”

DeSantis does have some things he can focus on that could win voters as a saner, more electable version of Trump. Instead he's pushing farther to the right and keeps doubling down on the culture wars. The left is coming for your children!!!

'Mamas for DeSantis' is proof: The DeSantis campaign is too online

    https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news...eople-with-minnesota-licenses-later-this-year

“What the Florida law says, is that there has to be proof of lawful residence in the United States,” explains David Schultz, a political science professor at Hamline University. “If they stop somebody from out of state and they are not lawful in the U.S., they will issue perhaps a citation for driving without a license.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says the new law is designed to crack down on undocumented immigrants.

Right now, Minnesota only issues licenses to drivers who are lawful residents in the U.S. But as of Oct. 1, a state law will allow licenses to be issued to anyone who qualifies, including those who lack proper documentation. That date comes as many Minnesotans — ‘snowbirds’ — head down to Florida for the winter.

“Given what our new law is, and given the Florida laws, and given the migration patterns between the two states, it could well have an impact on Minnesotans,” Schultz says.

The idea is not popular with Rosnau and his wife Patty — who worry about being pulled over, simply because their car has Minnesota license plates. “It’s ridiculous, it’s like we’re being punished,” he says. “Why should we take our vehicle down, we get pulled over, why should we have to pay a fine for something? We should be able to go anywhere in the U.S. with a driver’s license.”

Another illegal law. Violates the Full Faith and Credit clause in addition to illegally making immigration policy. Can’t invalidate out of state licenses or refuse to recognize them. Won’t be challenged until it is enforced and there is someone with standing. It’s practical effect is to chill visitation— thereby encouraging DeSantis’s policies of hurting Florida business to advance his personal hate filled agenda

By the time that is felt,it will have no bearing on DeSantis. He will either be in the White House or getting ready to leave the governor’s mansion by terming out as governor.

Correct but hopefully it will shake the maggots out of the Florida legislature and the Dems can develop attractive candidates such as the mayor of Jax to run. OTOH many ilk are very, very stupid people and the worse things get the more they might blame anyone but the people they elect. They key will be to influence the asshole white collar workers who voted for him but anre motivated by economic expansion and of course women who already hate his guts. His popularity has plunged, it’s a negative 19 nationally and while I haven’t seen any Florida only polls it’s safe to say it’s just as bad. He’s nobody’s hero and that diminishment has to translate to his cronies.

Looks like Meatball Ron will follow in the footsteps of his fellow Florida Republican politicians Low Energy Jeb and Little Marco come March 19, 2024. Although it's obviously still very early it doesn't look good when a high profile presidential candidate is behind the front runner by a 20 percent margin in his own state.
