Truckers contemplating one day Florida boycott to protest anti-immigration bill and its specific impacts on trucking

The one-day boycott, which organizers say may include thousands of drivers, calls for a suspension of deliveries to and from Florida, one of the states with the highest share of intrastate shipments by value, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The transportation industry in Florida generates more than 99,000 jobs held by heavy and semitrailer truck drivers, federal records shows. But like many other fields, the trucking industry has been diversifying its labor force in recent years by employing more foreign-born truck drivers.

The requirements for obtaining a truck driver certification differ from state to state. In Florida the new law no longer permits reliance on out-of-state driver’s licenses. If another state issued an ID or license to an individual who was unable to prove lawful presence at the time of issuance, that person would be prohibited from operating a motor vehicle in Florida.

The new law also imposes penalties and restrictions, including felony charges for transporting people without permanent legal status into the state. It requires businesses with 25 or more employees to use a federal database to check a workers’ documentation, and mandates hospitals that accept Medicaid to collect patient information on their residency status.

The bolded portion at least sound subject to a Dormant Commerce Clause challenge.

Florida, what an embarrassment of a state

Idina Mendel, a/k/a Adele Dazeem, at St. Pete Pride, outlines the gay anti-Christian agenda. The bolded sections below are especially hostile to current US “Christian” dogma, and is really intolerant of their message of true Christian “love”

Menzel said she was happy to perform in St. Petersburg, and addressed the crowd directly several times by asking them if they were staying hydrated and ignoring “bullies” who try to rattle them.

“There’s so much adversity and there’s so much hatred, cruelty and you meet that cruelty with love … and joy and hope,” she said.

Nearly every phone was up and out when she sang “Let it Go” from “Frozen,” “No Day but Today” from “Rent” and “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked,” which she dedicated to trans and LGBTQ+ youth.

“If you are feeling alone and like nobody sees you, we see you. We are here for you. You are not alone,
and if you do not feel supported in your school or your home, we will be your home. … They can never keep you down,” she said.

I wouldn’t count him out yet. He is positioning to be on top if DT is out for any of a number of reasons. He has a ton of money, all the big money is behind him, and he knows how to ride and tap into the wave of hatred which motivates the base.

Oh, I'm not. The right has shown they don't care about principles and character. This is the age of the armed aggrieved.

I never picked on anybody, you guys misread me all the time I was/am the most calm tempered guy you know. As for being picked on, there was one kid who used to pick on me, not because he was bigger than me or tougher than me but because I allowed it and he thought it was funny. He was part of the same group of friends I hung out with. There was no real malice, it was not the kind of picking you would think it was. He would run up and punch me in the shoulder and run off laughing. If I had shown any anger he would have stopped.

You may know more than I do. But from where I read, he's very well funded. Some of the funders are having second thoughts and may not be there for the next rounds but he's got a lot of money in the bank, and he's willing to cut a lot of ethical lines, to the extent any still exists, to get more

I don't blame DeS for having an inflated perception of his electoral future, given the complete lack of opposition from the groveling Florida government. Must be nice to be King. Take one step over the state line, though, and national politics are going to smack him upside his square head.

The interesting thing I've been thinking and I think posted here before, and that Matt Yglesias has picked up on, is that he's just too short at 5 ft 9 in tall. I don't agree with that sentiment. Not only do I think it's wrong, that's my height as well. I'm far from judging him for it.

There are 100s of valid reasons why he should never have power over anyone, just as a function of his misanthropic disposition. But his height is not one of them. But it may be his undoing. Anything to save the Republic.

Unfortunately, he was born too late. Back in the day, presidents averaged 5' 7", with the notable exception of our tallest president, Lincoln, at 6' 4". The shortest was James Madison, 5" 4". Many of our modern-day presidents have been 6' plus. The chart I read had Trump at 6' 3", which sounds generous. I thought he was like 6' 1".

And that coupled with the volumes of big money that has been thrown into his campaign must have made him feel invincible. The problem, of course, is his thin-skinned inability to relate to anyone who does not sycophantically “yes”with him, along with his inability to effectively bully people at this stage of his campaign. I truly hope he crashes so hard that he will never be politically heard from again.

He raised a lot of $$ and has a couple of far right big players backing him but most have left him as he continued to feud with Disney. Eisner has a lot of respect in the business community and desi burned a lot of bridges there
