Whatever happened to that 5 star DL recruit we got last year?

He played this year... was on the field against FSU. Got a BS penalty, I think.

 

He has played a bit.

penalty on him was absurd and was a love tap on the QB

 

He should be really good. He has had pressures beating his man. It's just he has gone from being a man against boys to being a man amongst men. The kids gonna be alright.

 

Really difficult for a true freshman to excel in college on the line of scrimmage. Could be year 2 or 3 before you see talent emerge

 

Exactly... "love tap" is the perfect description for that...

 

He played quite a bit almost every game.

Team wisely brought him a long the way you do when you have more experienced guys in front of him who ARE playing very well.

 

And who was the other kid we got really late? As I recall one counted as recruit and one counted as a “transfer” but nevertheless the combination vaulted us into a top 10 class. I’m blanking out on the other kid. FYI McCray played about 15 snaps a game.

yep. Our two freshmen DT’s got valuable PT this year, so did Brien Taylor, and we return Lyons next year too!!

 

He's been good. He's 2nd for most hurries. From 247:

"Sophomore edge rusher Kamran James and freshman edge rusher LJ McCray, who rank first and second, respectively, in quarterback hurries."

 

McCray has played in every game and is 3rd on the team in QBH, we're so deep at DE but this kid is going to be a star. Our highest rated recruits have really crushed it this year, obviously Lagway is an unreal talent (could be the best NFL QB ever to come out of Florida) and both LB's (Graham and Chiles) also look to be stars in the making.

Recruiting matters, and our highest 4 rated recruits from last year are showing it on the field.

 

Kam James really started making plays down the stretch. He should be ready to make a big splash next year.

 

He has that same size as McCray and has super potential. He was just a bit more raw when he arrived.

 

Sapp and Gumbs are going to be killers next year.

 

only defensive freshmen who didn’t get [extended] snaps were Teddy Foster, Josiah Davis and Grimsley (he played against FSU). Everyone else got their feet extremely wet this season.

 

I thought he played but kept his shirt, guess not

 

His snap count steadily increased during the year and he started making some big impact plays. He should come into his own next year.
