Here is where I'll disagree and flip on the firing of coaches. If he starts the season, let him finish the season. If a change needs to be made after that final game, make it then.
Actually, change "paid" to "are paying." We still owe Mullen $1M per year for the next four years to complete his $12M payout. At least we've paid Muschamp and McElwain off now...
Paid - Paying, Accrual accounting And now people are advocating we get rid of CBN end of year 3 if he doesn't meet some criteria and pay out another 25 million. No wonder Shane says we are broke!
And if he shows some progress next season in terms of winning games, then we can discuss whether the idea of a glacially slow rebuild is feasible. If he shows he has learned nothing about playcalling, special teams, etc, and it results in another losing season, then I would have to question — and so should you — when precisely he is going to learn it. Three years is enough to determine whether or not this program is on a proper trajectory or just flailing.
No, I don’t agree. We will know as early as October 19th whether a winning season is still possible. The moment it is out, so should Napier be out. Really, if Napier is not already sitting on five wins after the Kentucky game, you can mercy rule this thing. Give the university the most time possible to find a new head coach.
Then give the man a break, I'm not necessarily pointing you out but our toxic side of the base. He wasn't handed 75 5* players like $aban is leaving behind. And he's not cheating like mid major Mike.
That’s a difficult question to assess categorically yet. I would say the jury is still out. But assessing the body of his work to date, I would unemotionally say that mediocre would be a generous grade right now. I frankly think he’s been below average in terms of performance, and I think we are beyond the point of excusing his performance by laying anything at Mullen’s feet or the evolving nature of the game with NIL, the Portal, etc. For instance, no one but Napier is responsible for his two OL coaching debacle or not having an on-field ST coordinator. And the results of both have been abysmal.
Can't argue the jury is still out, but good God it's only been 2yrs. And this still has Mullens stink on it, none of his players panned out, look at how many of BN's FR made all American teams this year, against a burgeoning schedule. I also wish he'd ditch the 2 OL junk, hire a spread OC & the best ST's coach in America. Next year we bring back pretty much everybody except ETN & PU, but they're both replaceable and I honestly don't think they'll be missed. He has to come out game #1 out blow out miami, they're a dumpster fire w/o a serviceable QB & their DB's are probably bottom of the barrel in the P5. If CBN can do that I believe '24 will be a very good season. Now otoh, if he loses to Miami and the season is another backbreaker.... the future of UF is in a lot more trouble. SS would have to go as well. And who replaces him? I personally am rooting like hell for BN b/c I have a feeling UF will be in a whole new world of hurt if he fails.
I can't count how many times Norvell has been invoked on this forum as to why BN should be given more time. Now he is a cheater and shouldn't be used as a comparison. The flowing river of excuses can shift but will never be stopped.
2 things can be true at once. MN was embarrassing fsu FAR more than CBN could ever dream of embarrassing UF. Did CBN dodge teams during covid? Did CBN lie to players where they publicly called him out on Twitter? Did a upperclassmen DT QB land in his lap against an embarrassingly bad SOS? MN was getting demolished by mediocre acc teams until a few portal guys saved his rear. Now fsu fans are terrified of him going to Bama, while the crazy side of ours want BN gone.
Been following fla since 1969 I was 12. It was Reeves to Alverez show first game I listen to on radio we won over I think it was Houston who was ranked. I love the Gators and when we lost I was not fun to be around. Had season tickets for 25 years when I got older and it was a way of life going to tailgate, cookout watch the game. Still ruined my weekend when we lost especially to Georgia and FSU. Now I still enjoy watching them play best time of the year but when game is over I vent for a hour and it's done. Don't let football control your emotions, when we win be happy we lose be upset but think how the players must feel. So I love my Gators but not going to lose sleep over which player we missed on and were we in top 5 in recruiting. Just enjoy being a Gator and take the bad with the good. It will turn around look at our history it's like the stock market. When it does it will be great. Go Gators
not sure why anyone brings up kirby in a discussion about coaches that universities waited on to be successful. The dude was playing for it all in his 2nd season and hasn't looked back since.
"Now he is a cheater".. He always was a cheater, we just didn't know about it. The plan was to give CBN the time to rebuild . You and some others want to cut the plan short. In discussions about this, i'm not hearing any idea from those who can't take the current situation as to who they think we should have hired and who will pay the 25 million buyout.
sorry he won the SEC year two and lost in the championship to bama. Hardly waiting for success. I'll preempt any but he had a great roster retort and agree he did but you still have to have good coaches, game plans and in game decision making. 2016 8–5 2017 13–2 2018 11–3 2019 12–2 2020 8–2 2021 14–1 2022 15–0 2023 13–1 Georgia: 94–16 - overall with Kirby
But think about it, MN was a hair away from being run off with pitchforks. Then he somehow beats lsu, has a 10 win season, & ALL of the draft eligible players return, and now he's a God to hole fans. MAYBE the Miami game can be our turning point too?!
