You are confusing two different things. I said that I would rather work in a place that is not toxic and working towards getting better than work in a toxic place that is already great. I wasn't talking about whether a business is bankrupt or not. I also didn't offer a situation in which a business "doesn't win" but has a good environment. I said is working towards getting better. I think you introduced a straw man.

Wins and losses are not as important for a new coaching staff as development. Yes, the idea is to win, but being reasonable in the process is something we fans need to improve on. He now has upgraded I believe the defensive side of the coaching staff and has a good base of players. The w/l ratio should improve next season. If it doesn't it will be on the head coach.

Enjoyed your post and could relate to it. I remember the Reeves/Alvarez days well. I cut my teeth with Jimmy Dunn, Don Fleming, Bobby Joe Green, Larry Libertore, Don Goodman, Lindy Infante, Larry Dupree, and all those guys are who I remember my dad talking to me about the most. Those were not great teams but they were the Gators! It was my dad that made me a Gator fan, because he talked about the Gators a lot. I remember him listening to all the games on the radio until we could afford a television, and even then, I remember sitting and listening to most games with him via the radio. I don't remember any games televised until Steve Spurrier, and still, most games, dad and I listened to on the radio. My dad, if he was alive, would croak at how much money I have spent, and still spend, on watching Gator football. I regress, but Gator football is in my DNA. I am not one of these damn bandwagoning Gator fans of the 90's, spoiled by Spurrier hanging half-a-hundred on opponents. Some Gator fans, before Gator Nation or the Swamp were ever thought of, remember "in all kinds of weather, we'll all stick together for F-L-O-R-I-D-A!" Some Gator fans interpret that as a complacency towards mediocrity; but for some of us, that ain't true!!! After Spurrier went to the NFL, Gator fans, myself included, have struggled with the Zooker et al. We LOVE winning and hate losing and rant when a coach has issues. With the three amigos--Muschamp, McElwain, and Mullen--it was obvious that none of them were Spurrier or Meyer. Now, Napier isn't Spurrier or Meyer, but he sure as he'll ain't one of the three M's! This guy is an exceptional coach and he's just getting started. He's got his quarterback, running backs, and, finally, some legitimate speed at wide receiver. Things are going not so well with the OL and defense, but we are going to get there. I know some won't like this one bit, but Napier's just getting started! So if you will stop the negativity.and be patient, We Are the Boys from Old Florida! Trust the doctor, Napier's going to succeed! There are plenty of adversary's: FSU, Georgia, Miami--but I don't want to contribute to their cause! For the sake of Gator Nation, in all kinds of weather let's stick together. PLEASE?

I have been very vocal about the direction of coaching in football and basketball post-Meyer and Donovan. I have been very supportive of Napier and Golden because I believe they appreciate the gravity of the situation.

I think negative recruiting has lost its luster in this age because of the transfer portal and NIL. If I know I can make 200K a year with a program and a beleaguered coach with two years of eligibility or go to a program where I am a utility player and earn 25K riding the bench, I think I am going to opt out for the 400K.

Sounds like he’d be disgusted with what college football has turned in to.

It's really all about what was said when he was hired. I'm sure "how long will it take?" was discussed. I think the record so far is meaningless. I think he gets 5 years with no real expectations for significant change until year 4. I do think he needs 7 wins this upcoming year to keep fans at bay.

I'm hoping the boosters understand Napier's getting there, the 3 M's left a greater mess than GN knows!!!

And the insanity keeps being perpetuated, because some Gator fans can't see the bigger picture. Social media has created a ton of armchair quarterbacks who, like teenagers, do not realize--YET-- how much they don't know about football and coaching!!! I won't be surprised if these flaming idiots will attack me for exposing them!

I am sure you will agree that you and the other poster reached an impasse before you started and you just have to move on!

Here's what I'd love to see happen in year three. I would love to see Mertz have a stellar season and Lagway contribute with scripted plays; an OL step up with good run and pass blocking, the wide receiver's excel and Montrell reaches a 1,000 yards, and the defense shows some appreciable improvement. And, then, I woke up and it was just a dream! Seriously, though, who are the Gator athletes who need to have a breakout year for that to happen? What players would cause you to be ecstatic about 2024? It's okay, GN, to dream a little bit. Go ahead, take your best shot, and could we just tolerate each other? I think we all want the same thing.

I think it's obvious BN knows patience is running out. It's one thing to say DM left the roster somewhat bare, but that doesn't hide the fact there have been bad coaching hires, poor game management, undisciplined plays, and anemic approach to portal players a year ago.
Good thing for him is the fact UF had fired 3 coaches prior to him which means a reluctance to keep doing this, and his asinine payout. Heck, he can be fired and will be set for life going back to coaching a smaller school like Mac. Sad news is UF will have to dig out of the hole he left.

My impasse is referring to the past 2 years as meaningless. Win or lose, good and bad, not meaningless.
