My problem with Klobuchar is that I don't know how to pronounce her name. When I try it comes out like Karbunkle or Klodhopper.
Well if either Desantis or Trump are the nominee I don’t think it will matter. All people who support democracy and women would vote against those troglodytes.
While Harris could be a drag on Biden, Trump's choice of a running mate, most likely Kari Lake will more than offset any negative impact from Harris. I would also add that it's very unlikely that Biden will be only the presidential candidate in 2024 who may have problems concerning cognitive decline and this link is almost six years old. Trump wasn’t always so linguistically challenged. What could explain the change? Waiting for the standard response from @flgator2 that Trump is living rent free in my head or that I have TDS although once again the comment is especially relevant considering that the Donald will almost certainly be Biden's opponent in 2024.
Yeah, I'm not sure that VPs typically matter as much as people think, but that could be more important given the age of Trump and Biden. There have been some rumors about Trump and/or those around him souring on Keri Lake. Who knows, but seems odd to me to have her on the ticket when she lost her own state and has never held elected office. Has Trump really turned on Kari Lake, one of his loudest cheerleaders? | Arwa Mahdawi
While the article does raise some valid points I'm not sure that Trump himself would be all that upset over Kari Lake's loss considering that she's echoing Trump's own mantra that she really won and that the election was stolen from her and that her election loss in Arizona was actually much closer than Trump's own loss in 2020. I'm also not that sure that the fact that she never held elective office is all that important either considering that Trump himself never held elective office prior to his own run in 2016 and that endorsed celebrity candidates in state Republican primaries who had never held elective office with Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker coming immediately to mind. Another possibility is Sarah Huckabee Sanders since she actually did win a statewide election.
This is where I’m at. Maybe replace Kamala with someone like Corey Booker that isn’t super dynamic when it comes to garnering votes but would be competent and provide a stately presence if anything happened to Biden.
Have read the same. Might point towards Niki Haley who has won a statewide election, served in his previous administration and is generally popular among Rs. She is not heavily criticizing trump by name that I’ve seen and maybe preserving her potential for a VP slot.
While I think Haley would be an excellent choice I cannot see her accepting the VP slot even if offered by Trump. If she is Trump's running mate and he loses the general election as expected her future viability as a presidential candidate would go completely down the tubes.
You mean the Nicki Haley that said wokeness is worse than any virus - after a pandemic that has killed millions of people. You have to talk stupid to run as a Pub.
I too liked Haley before she started cow towing to trump. I think her on the ballot with trump would be beneficial to her chances in the Republican Party.
Sold her soul. There were things to like about her but she has embraced crazy even if she has kept Trump at arms distance. She is ok with crazy if she thinks it is politically advantageous. She's a worst than the idiots like Cruz because she is clearly way smarter to know better.
I realize it's difficult for you to not turn Biden threads (or any thread for that matter) into a thread about Trump/DeSantis, but if you could stick to discussion of Biden's condition and how the Dems will strategize around it, that would be much appreciated. There are lots of viable alternatives on the Democratic side, if they were so allowed.
What does the realistic execution of that plan look like? How does Biden get from "I'm going to pick a woman to be my VP" to "ditched the bitch, brought someone in who can mansplain it better." I think it's a fair question. In order to do what you're proposing, you have to get past the obvious elephant in the room. One of the many drawbacks of using identity politics to gain.
Sorry I didn’t want to play your game of Biden being too old while adding in that Trump is too old. I did answer earlier that I liked Klobuchar as a second term running mate for Biden. She though not very charismatic I think would be a competent president but unlikely able to get the nomination.
Realistically, what are the actuarial chances that Biden will be alive in 2028? He is already 2 years past the average life span for a man in the US and has a history of a serious brain bleed. I would love to know what an insurance chart says the chances are he will live 5 more years. I guessed he would die during this term when he was first elected based on the above.
Biden is a demented octogenarian. But you can’t have an anti-vax and an anti-war alternative. There are billionaires to mint and wars to be fought.
That's not the "game." Age is just a number. When you compare Biden of today to Biden of 2020 and especially Biden of 2016, you can see the noticeable cliff drop off. Everybody's DNA is different. Using a fixed age to say someone is too old to run is dumb. I saw your post on Klobuchar. She's not a bad choice, but the logistics of making that happen seem almost impossible to me. I think the tentative plan is likely to let Biden/Harris run together in 2024, because they think he'll beat Trump and shortly after his inauguration, begin the transition to resignation and hand it off to Kamala (for better or for worse). There is also the very real possibility nature won't allow Biden to finish his second term, no matter how stubborn he is. So for now, the strategy is to win 2024 with Biden/Harris at all costs. Not rock the boat with replacing Kamala before the election takes place, at the very least.
