Could be a bigger issue for the 2024 election than what meets the eyes right now if Biden deteriorates at a faster pace in the next year. Yeah, Reagan may have had a slight amount of cognitive decline at the tail end, maybe, but it was barely noticeable. Reagan was able to deliver a pretty crisp speech without a teleprompter at the 1992 GOP convention. I think most of us would be shocked if Biden is still alive in 2032. So the comparison is laughable. Reagan also didn't have 24/7 social media coverage and camera phones to contend with. FDR was able to hide his polio, there was no TV. It would be impossible to pull off today. Hence, the giant gamble Dems are making by rolling with Biden again for 2024. Best case scenario for Dems is what I stated previously. This assumes the economy doesn't turn south, which is a very real possibility. If the economy goes south, that changes everything.
In another couple of years Biden will need match sticks or something to prop his eyelids open. As for a third party candidate, any such candidate with any strength will assure that Trump wins. There is already fear that Cornel Wilde or West or whoever he is will take enough votes away from Biden to lead us straight into the American fascism that at least a third of the people want. Basically I think this country is screwed. But it's been asking for it, so voila!
I believe this as well and I consider myself to be an optimistic. I'm also a realist and I see what you are seeing. We're too far down that path and too many people have been turned against us.
How much oil do you think the US will be producing under Joe Biden "the Energy President" in 5 years? Probably so much that the GOP will have to come out against the oil industry.
Recessions don’t just happen. Sometimes it’s caused by the market doing what the market shouldn’t. Sometimes it’s caused because of government policy. 2007 housing crash was a mix of government and market greed. This recession will be all government. Trump and Biden both share blame in it. Most knew the Feds wouldn’t be able to get it right either. Accepting it because your choice of political party is currently the leader is freaking bonkers. You can pass an infrastructure package that didn’t have billions going towards things that have nothing to do with infrastructure. Besides, it was far more than just that package that caused inflation to go nuts.
How about replace her with Klobuchar? She seems like a competent but uninspiring person. She is from the Midwest so it might make some states less competitive.
Should have been the choice last time. You really want to get outside the box then cross the line and get Kasich on board....of course that won't happen
I'd tell Kamala to go run for Gov of California and have Gavin Newsome step into VP if I was Biden. Assured winner on both counts.
So many asking for a legit alternative.. so who in each side would you consider a legit alternative? F you are a dem.. what republicans would you vote for over Biden And if you are republicans.. what dem Would you vote for over Trump? My guess is that the vast majority in here will vote party line no matter what.
I would vote for any republican that acknowledges that there was an attempted coup after the last election that Biden won. And if he supported women making their own medical decisions without government intrusion that would be my perfect candidate.
She wouldn’t be a terrible choice for the replacement. The issue of optics is still present, however. If you’re Biden, how do you explain to the public and media that you’ve decided to move on from your original pick? Obviously, he can do it, but people are still going to ask why he’s sacking Kamala, which will lead to perfectly reasonable questions about his judgment.
Biden chose Kamala apparently because he's a masochist and liked the way she publicly went for his jugular over his civil rights record in their debate for the Democratic nomination. I wouldn't be surprised if she flagellates him in the Oval Office after hours.
That could potentially be a sensitive subject on the left since Harris is the first woman and first Black American to serve as VP. Of course, if Trump is the Republican nominee, his judgment could also be questioned given that Trump's VP is now actively running against him and saying Trump attempted to put himself over the Constitution.
My belief is Kamala was seen as the stronger candidate of the two (between her and Klobuchar) within Dem circles, with more upside (at the time), and Kamala being a woman of color didn’t hurt things either.
