The amount of talent urbs inherited(recruited by Ron Zook) was monumental in the 2006 NC. 2007 was a tough year and then we won the NC in 2008 with urbs recruited talent, then the bottom fell out and urbs melted down. This is BN's 2nd season and he did not inherit anywhere near the talent urbs did. So any comparison is apples and oranges. I am not happy with certain aspects of our program at all, but BN will get 4 years, so everybody needs to calm down. All of you calling for BN or SS to be fired - you need to understand how much further behind that move would put us.

the current AD has put more money into football than any prior AD. Because he’s had to. Prior regime helped lead to UF being behind in facilities, dorms, bags of cash, etc.

if there is one thing the current AD is actually good at it is raising and spending money. Choosing coaches not so much.

This gets brought up all the time and has been debunked. Kirby almost won it all in year two. Yes he inherited a good roster but he also coached those guys up and instilled a totally different attitude in that team.

Will agree with Michigan but they’ve got their own problems now.

The last time we won the SECCG was 14 years ago so how is that being spoiled? Put it this way, Kirby has more wins in his short tenure than the last 14 years of Gator football. If you are saying having an above .500 record on a consistent basis is being spoiled, pretty much every fanbase in the FBS and FCS is spoiled.

I agree with funngun. This is what has been bothering me the most from my POV about Billy. We are failing to do the basics. And what is even more troubling is that we are not learning or adapting when mistakes are made. Clock management has been horrible for two years and not improved. Getting the correct number of personnel on and off the field continues to be an issue. We have no ability to line up and go hurry up on offense. Do I need to mention anything about the special teams? There are very little in game adjustments. These gaffes have been ongoing for two seasons now. This is on the coaching staff. Even untalented teams have the ability to execute these basic skills.

Hit the nail on the head. Stricklin is a fundraiser. If there was a position on the athletic department just for a fundraiser he would fill it prefectly.

Unfortunately being an AD is way more than that. And he lacks all other necessary qualities.

Agree completely, but need to add that not only did Meyer inherit an NFL roster, he also inherited the best recruiting infrastructure in UF history, with the debatable exception of Pell. Florida coaches under Zook were everywhere in the state and region. Even at high schools that didn’t have any seniors. They had built relationships selling UF, not themselves.

Napier inherited a recruiting infrastructure where not only did high schools not get many visits from UF coaches, when then did, they were not often positive experiences. Napier inherited a horrible recruiting landscape and a culture of embracing losing. The fact that Grantham even was retained after 2019 told us all we needed to know about Mullen.

Yesterday stings hard. Very hard. The ST coach needs to go. Doesn’t matter if he’s on the field or not. The two DL we were missing and the makeshift OL hurt.

We need to coach players to not field punts inside the five and to not try and pick up fumbles in a crowd. Dive on the friggin ball. Coach our offensive lineman to not stand and watch plays after they have either made or missed their block. Go and hit someone else to prevent them from getting to the ball. The list is longer.

For those of you looking for answers I would suggest the following. Between now and the 25th, go on YouTube and watch and of our Senior Day recognitions from the Spurrier or Meyer days. You will see one All SEC/NFL player after another run out of the South End Zone. Remember and compare those videos with what you see tun out of the tunnel this year. We have to give Coach 3-4 years to get the talent. Period.

  8. Remember that college athletics is a business. The athletic director does more than raise funds, hire coaches, and count trophies. The AD is a CEO over several senior vice presidents that we call head coaches.

Here is where Stricklin rates using criteria based on the Director’s Cup:
    1. Bernard Muir, Stanford
    2. Scott Stricklin, Florida
    3. Wade Manuel, Michigan
    4. Mollie Marcoux, Princeton
    5. Bubba Cunningham, North Carolina
In terms of revenue by ticket sales, Florida is around #24. In terms of revenue from all sources, Florida is #8. This ranking is generally representative of all athletic programs in terms of all-source revenue and profit.
    1. Ohio State ($251M revenue, $225M expenses)
    2. Texas
    3. Alabama
    4. Michigan
    5. Georgia
    6. LSU
    7. Texas A&M
    8. Florida ($190M revenue, $174 expenses)
    9. Penn State
    10. Oklahoma
We as fans tend to focus on championships and wins/ losses, but there is a lot more that good into operating an athletics program. Stricklin has learned from other ADs that the keys to successful athletic programs involves stability, among other things. We can criticize his penchant for hiring young coaches and hoping for the next superstar coach to emerge in five years, but the strategy is working for him since he has a mix of younger and older coaches across his 21 sports programs. We also judge him against Jeremy Foley, who is considered to be among the best athletic directors of all time at any university.

Stricklin is not getting fired, nor should he be, if Napier fails to win 7 games 4 years in a row—which is a real possibility. I know that is a hot take, but the athletic programs at Florida generate revenue irrespective of wins and losses, assuming the coaches are competitive in the eyes of donors and fans alike.

SS came from Mississippi St. If he is trying to turn us into Starkville east then the school administration needs to step up and do something.

If Napier gets to his 4th season, we won’t be 7-4. Need to give him time to fix the staff and get the talent. Maybe we all need to watch Hoosiers tonight instead of NFL. Billy Napier = Norman Dale.

Kirby didn’t have the portal and still figured it out.

Now Kirby has portal and he signs stars like:
Tykee Smith- will be all American
    RaRa
    D. Lovett

All guys we could have had.

Richt had recruited well; Kirby inherited a solid team.

Mullen didn't recruit for shit. Everyone knows that.

  17. Yes, but I wanted everyone to notice the profit margins for top teams is about $20M. Imagine how hard it would be to maintain those margins when firing coaches every four years and paying $40M buyouts plus $60M for new coaches. Spread out $100M across five years constantly and there is no way to generate revenue for all sports, so football has to suffer a bit by allowing coaches to develop over 4 years or more.

Florida generates revenue despite losing seasons because investors see value in the brand beyond wins and losses. UF investors outpace regular fans in terms of revenue between 5:1 and 10:1.

Why is UF the outlier? Investors. UF has a brand that transcends wins and losses.

Because we are the one school on the list with losing seasons. Coming up potentially on year #3.

Yet we still have people wanting Mullen back, probably have a record of 2-7 right now with him.

Napier isn’t going anywhere soon and it’s ridiculous to fire the ad with the coach still here. Don’t see either as a possibility just yet.
