Does he conference during the season, after the season, what if any input does he make? It would seem in our case, how BN goes so goes SS. Does the AD recommend changes? Demand changes? At some point it would seem the AD has to get involved if things seem to be going south after all have to fill seats. Right now it appears we are headed for a third losing season at a 'football school', two with BN being the HC. How firm does an AD get especially when the AD really likes the coach. Just curious
My guesses: They meet regularly during the season. From HS on up this happens The UAA is a $164 million business. Of course Stricktime talks with CBN. Billy answers to him.
Scott Stricklin must not p Oh the horror. How dare we ask that the program put a good product on the field in year 2?
It's all in recruiting. Till we get talent alike GA, AL, LSU, we will not be competitive. Meyer did it, remains to be seen if CBN can do it.
This recruiting class is buying much needed time for our coach, and people here need to let the adults in charge handle our hires and those that should be fired... Napier is here, and he's our head ball coach right now, so get over it.
Wanna see how a ruthless AD operates? The article on Tom Jurich from ESPN lays out how things were done there from the perspective of the AD as the CEO and the coaches as the underlings who had to meet the standards set. The hoops scandal aside this is how things should be run, regardless of how things ended hiring Pitino and Dan Mcdonnell (top 10 baseball coach) brought success. Hmmmm, how about the portal? Recruiting sounds great but wouldn’t we then have to wait another 2 years. With the portal now you can win immediately. Gotta do well in the portal.
There are two approaches these days to getting players. The first is the traditional approach where you recruit players out of high school and that’s the one we are using. The second is to use the transfer portal to immediately bring in experienced players and that’s been done by FSU, Tennessee, etc. When Napier came in, he said he was going to build the program from the ground up (Remember Mullen?) and it would take TIME. We applaud coaches like Smart and Harbaugh, but it took them TIME. Interesting that FSU is recruiting well now. They will have a number of true freshman on their team next season. Gator fans don’t understand TIME. They think that means a national championship in two years. Stricklin following Foley is like Zook following Spurrier. I’m not sold on Napier yet and wii have to wait another couple of years to see how this plays out.
A lot on other boards talking about Meyer as a coach. I wonder if we don’t see him as an AD. He would definitely hire well. I also don’t think he would have passed on Riley or Kelly for our job.
The waiting while building part is not the way to go now. One thing forgotten when you mentioned Smart and others…They had no portal. We have a portal and need to go all in on the portal. Saying it’s gonna take 4-5 years is not the way to go mentality wise. I just don’t get the waiting part. Many new coaches win early.
