Clearly, what Gator Nation wants and expects are wins; and if losses come, to be respectable losses. Although I wouldn't like it one bit, I would throw less things at my television if the Gators could demonstrate a semblance of decent offense. I understand the ire, because that first game was God-awful!!! I, for one, was embarrassed by the performance. But, I saw a quarterback, in Graham Mertz, play inspiring football.

Some know, I lost my shirt when Napier got Mertz in the portal. I have not been a Mertz fan, but I liked what I saw in him from game one. I think he was sacked five times, but it felt way worse than that. Yes, Mertz missed some easy throws, but he had a 70% completion rating--good enough for a W! GN would be having a different conversation if the OL had played penalty free, because we would have won. We were horrible in the red zone, and you can't win on someone else's home field (Clemson is a perfect example). Our defense kept us in the Utah game, and I expect more of the same from them. The offense, for me, is a wait-and-see. What we want and what we should expect this year may be two, totally, different things.

I will not be surprised if certain teams like Tennessee have an early lead on us; and, I'm not impressed that this is an offense that can win while playing from behind. From what we have seen so far, is UF a quick score, hurry-up, offense? The Gator offense just doesn't seem to be able to come out on the field firing on all cylinders. Yes, I put that on the coaches. We have two OL coaches, and GN wants and expects much better. All of those penalties felt like a team that was not mentally prepared. Special teams and the OL was abysmal, and that is also on the coaches. I like Coach Napier and don't like the negativity from some in GN
against him. I don't think it's healthy for the program, player's, and future recruits. As I see it, Napier has had a lot of weird stuff: last year many player's did not have buy-in; this year, a lot of young and new players with very little experience of playing together.

I have been a lifelong Gator fan, going back to the 50's. I have not liked some of the Gator coaches of the past, but I think Napier may end up being elite. (I hope I don't regret saying that!!!) I'm not sure if the Gators will turn things around this year. Is GN okay with another losing season? I am afraid the key word is patience for 2023!

With that said, I do think UF is capable of beating a lot of opponents on their schedule. From what we saw in Utah, I'm not sure that having an 8-4 or 7-5 record in 2023 was a realistic expectation for me. Really, what is a realistic expectation?

    In my head--- UF
    6 wins.
No bad losses/ that means not losing by four touchdowns to any team at any time

    One upset

    Win the bowl game

This narrative that the Florida fanbase is problematic is hogwash. Florida fans are no more demanding than other P5 fanbases of teams that have had success. If this team went 7-5 and looked competent doing it, only a minority would be trashing the staff. That's how low the bar has been set. That is a far cry from the expectations of this fanbase from, say, 2003.

You are hearing the boo birds because the team looked un-prepared for a game they had all off-season to prepare for against an opponent that had their own set of issues to overcome.

Now, it's a single game. It doesn't have to define the whole season but a short-handed Utah team is far from the toughest opponent the Gators will face all year. There will almost surely be more losses. You silence the boo birds by showing signs of improvement. Eliminate, yes, eliminate the goofy penalties. Mistake-free football doesn't exist. False starts will happen. Hopefully, the team can reduce those. But for the love of Albert and Alberta, somebody get the Game Changer coordinator an updated roster sheet.

They are young and haven't played together. Tell that excuse to Colorado.

The thing I did not like about Mertz was his accuracy. Or, properly, his lack of accuracy. It was most noticeable on the short throws, where his ball placement was often something less than ideal. Obviously it is less noticeable on medium to longer throws, where players can adjust. But on at least one longer throw, had it been better placed, it could have meant a touchdown. His decision making seems good, and probably will improve with time and reps, but this far into his career I really do not see his accuracy improving. It is what it is.

I think we can now add Colorado to the list of teams that will be recruiting in Fla.Can you imagine the kids that would follow Deion out West?

Outstanding passing game; no running game and no defense. Perfect league for them to be in!

One victory over a no nothing defensive team hardly makes the Buffs a big time program yet.

Having said that if I was a Buff fan i would be over the moon.
1-11 was not very impressive last season.

Great individual game, Sanders Jr. looks like one of the best QB's in all of college football and Travis can flat out play.

Kudos to Sanders recognizing their team strength (It sure ain't defense) and staying with it.

Should Colorado keep this up and finish with a good record I have no doubt they will reel in an exceptional class both this cycle and especially next cycle.

There are always things to gripe about. I certainly do not endorse burying your head in the sand and pretending everything is alright. Realistically, the Gators played somewhat less than prognosticators expected. New OL and new quarterback, I hoped for better, but it did not happen. I believe the defense looked better, and they kept us in the game despite the offense sputtering. Seriously, I think the Gators would have won the game with fewer penalties. So, what was the prevailing problem with the Gators? Maybe you disliked the playcalling but execution by a new offense was the real issue!

Every week, half of college football teams lose.

Their fans want their coaches fired.

(Unless you’re a Vanderbilt or Duke, who by the way just beat Clemson for the first time in about 20 years.)

Now, some Clemson fans want Dabo Swinney fired, who has won 2 national championships.

How much offense is enough? 350+ yards on a good defense is not bad offense. Why try to run the ball when oline was not blocking well. If we ran 30 times into a brick wall, then all yall would be complaining we didn't throw enough. They dared us to throw, and we did. Aside from the blocking and penalties, the offense did okay. Take away the false starts and we probably score atleast two more field goals or tds.

Yep, this is more about prognosticators projecting than Gator fans being problematic. They do that to Gator Nation all the time, and they even try to exacerbate the hate onto the fans with their own hate. All you have to do is read their preseason expectations to see how they all "roll" against the Gators.

I didn't mean to imply that Col.was a big time school, but I think a lot of HS prospects watched the game. And,I think that Deion will be a big player in Fla.no matter what their record is going to be.

    15. That’s the number. Is that round enough?!? Wearing my Tebow jersey with pride as I walked down those steps and out of rice Eccles to a chorus of goodbyes and Gator chomps. I held my head high and enjoyed telling every Ute fan I could on the way out they should be proud of the national championship they just won.
