We weren’t great in 2007, it took another year for those kids to grow up. Our defense could be too 50 and tgat would be a huge improvement. AR would be the only major piece we are missing and he was only an average sec qb last year. It wont be hard to impro over last year. We were terrible.

I will root like Hell for UF in all of these games, and it’s shocking to see the fans on this board be so dubious of our team (and I am among the most guilty of this).

the “Second-Year Bounce” would be an absolute dud if we do not win more than 1 of these games.

if we don’t get 2 or more, the recruiting class will crumble and the current regime would have numbered days remaining. I am certain that I will get many downvotes on this, but it’s just reality.

UF had 5 players drafted in the top 150 picks

including AR, as you mentioned - the 4th overall pick. an “average sec qb” but the FOURTH pick in the entire draft.

lots of major pieces are missing, 6 guys were drafted and all were great Gators. wish you wouldn’t dump on our dudes so much.

I just hope it's not the same place the Ole Piss defense seemingly comes from. :p

It’s just reality. I’m not dumping on AR. He was drafted on potential. He will develop or he won’t. It’s true we had some great players but six guys don’t make a 44 man two deep and we had huge holes . We were a bad team.

  9. As an engineer I am normally more precise, but I will play it safe this time:
    • Florida at Utah >50%
    • Florida vs. Tenn >50%
    • Florida vs. UGA in Jax ~0%
    • Florida at LSU <50%
    • Florida at vs. FSU >50%

Georgia was not winning because of Stetson Bennett.

You think they win those championships with Emory Jones at QB? You think UF wins 6 games if Stetson Bennett was our QB?

And in the portal era, you have to recruit your current roster every year. The moment that a coaching staff shows some continued weakness, every big time program is going to be looking at that roster to see if there is a player on it that they think can be a player that can contribute immediately for them next year. The days of being able to count on that 4* player being your roster for three to four years is over.

This whole Utah thing in the altitude has me at least somewhat concerned. I spend a lot of time skiing in altitude, much higher than 6,000 ft. Usually 9,000-to 11,000 ft and it absolutely takes a couple of days minimum to acclimate. Hemoglobin needs to do it's thing. Now that I've been doing it for years my body has adjusted a bit.

I hope and pray that the school has a plan around that! Like miss some school. (leave Monday) Get there early, Thursday game. It was probably tough for Utah in the Swamp, muggy and all. The reason why I'm focussed on this Utah matchup, it really sets the tone for the season. If we lose, we lose. But coming home with a win and some momentum would be bad-azz.

LSU and Georgia are the tough ones. But if our defense is truly improved and second year progress manifests itself - we could surprise people. We need to protect Mertz and drop the ball to our guys. Some fast kids too. Open some holes, running game.

Being the optimist I am, I'm not sold that everyone has our number. The Swamp will need to be 'SCe blocked kick loud' for all the big games. On any given Saturday anything can happen. We're building a beast. The Gators in the Swamp are hungry! Make no doubt about it.:cool:

    Go Gators.;)

I do believe there’s a chance the young receivers in this class could make an impact this season. They’re not the only ones, but theirs could be the most impactful.

In order of chance: 1. FSU 2. TN 3. UT 4. LSU 5. GA
I'm not optimistic about the '23 campaign and will suggest that we get one of either FSU/TN.

A couple articles just came out and their outlook and or prognostication is pretty abysmal for this years Gator football season.

Why would Napier say we're light years ahead of last year - wouldn't he hedge against a miserable season? We can't suck forever. I'm sure he's read the memo! And a 31 million dollar buyout ain't happening-that's for sure.

Fan patience and improvement is required. We need some real wins to bolster the class too.

    Go Gators.

With Stetson Bennett we would have still won 6 games. If Emory was the UGAG QB they would have lost to Ohio State in the playoff and maybe one other regular season game.

Respectfully, no way in hell that is true. How many games did we lose off of one or two drives? How many times did we lose because our QBs were shell shocked and missed easy plays?

Put Emory in at QB for Bennett the last two years and Kirby is potentially on the hot seat and/or already fired. Did you not see what happened when Trask took over for Franks? QB makes a huge difference. With Bennett we are likely a 10 win team. Many people severely underrate his playmaking and QB play while at Georgia. I have no idea what kind of pro he will be, but the guy was a difference maker and winner in college.

If you give us an even or better chance to beat our toughest D1 rivals,
then we should have a 8-to-10-win season (not the 5.5 wins predicted).
Somehow though...I don't see that happening (with all due respect).
Beating Kentucky and S Carolina on the road will be a minor miracle.
