You're right. So go start a "Let's all support Billy" thread. That would be the refreshing change-of-pace that you seem to be looking for.

Bobby, Were you able to catch Shane Matthews this morning? While he obviously had a lot to say, his biggest problem in what he saw were what he called the little things that come down to coaching and scheme......particularly on offence (which Shane feels he knows a little bit about). Also had issues with the personnel used for certain plays, route angles, route depth when in the red zone etc......stuff Shane indicated that were always consistent whether it was college level or the pros. Bottom line it all starts and stops with Napier, but he was clear he doesn't blame Napier...... instead he feels its those that made the decision to hire and pay Napier.

Well let me add one thing that is refreshing in the disturbing thread. Not one comparison of BN to Norvell!

Almost exactly my thinking as well. I also expected to see experience leading to a little more football smarts.

But no, we saw none of that. Just four quarters of largely the same old same old.

I always thought Billy was brought in to manage expectations - run a spic and span program with a respectable, but not always great, number of wins.

He can do the former but is incapable of doing the latter. And I think the two are linked. Hiring top people involves investing too much trust in them. Or overseeing them in a way he either cannot or will not do.

He keeps his friends close because he knows they will always share his priorities.

Sadly, I chose to go work a concession stand at Georgia Tech rather than watch the game. And I will miss the A&M game as I partake in the Octoberfest festivities, next weekend. Billy has ruined Gator Football for me.

Initially, I supported BN's process approach and giving him time get his guys in place. I felt like he checked a lot of boxes that we lacked under Mullen. The one box left open was his ability to manage a game offensively as it unfolds. There's no doubt now, he doesn't have "IT", whatever "IT" is. Spurrier had "IT", as much as I hate to admit it, Mullen had "IT" (although lousy in every other area). When BN refused to hire an OC at the end of last season I stepped off his support bus. His Mister Rogers approach to coaching this game at this level is laughable. I don't know how long we will have to wait to close this chapter, but I hope it will come sooner than later. For now, I find it too difficult to watch. Go Gators!

I don't know what boxes he has checked with his actual performance/results. He checks boxes based on what he SAYS but not what he DOES.

Recruiting? On par with UF standards.
    Development? Who?
CEO? More staff turnover then I can ever remember.
    Scheme? Tragic comedy.
Physicality? Pushed around for 2+ years.
    Detail oriented? Timeout after kickoff.
Process? Ding ding ding, we are very consistently good at losing games.

    Great post!

to #1….i think you are absolutely correct that we wouldn’t have seen DJ. It is a small crime that he had no packages during the meat of the game, some situational football. It is even worse that during a blowout he wasn’t even coming in. Game was out of hand. Get the future some experience against a quality opponent. Unreal it took Graham getting hurt.

#2. I think the only identity the team has had is a run first offense that at times, does have a quality run game. Pound the rock. That is it.

#3 Napier claims that the lowest paid and most inexperienced coach - Calloway, was about to be poached so he gave him a bump to co-OC (of now 3 OC). Personally, I don’t believe it. He was promoted at the end of February. After most NFL and certainly all colleges have filled out their staffs. Sure, some guys move jobs at any time of the year. But the big poaching happens (in college) in December and early January and at the latest right after signing day in early February. I think Napier made that scenario up to take the heat off for not hiring an outside OC.

The rest of the staffers are / were not in high demand as you stated.

#4. The player rotations in many cases were baffling. On the fg drive, I think Barber and Harris were on the bench. It is the first quarter and you sub out the strongest part of the o line? During Lagways drives the entire second/third team o line was in with the exception of slaughter and Miami had their starters in. Not as big a deal but how about giving the freshman qb the starting o line for a bit?
The fact that Moten played 26 snaps at LB to Myles Graham 0 is unreal. Chiles had 5. I get playing Wingo, the senior, a few snaps here and there on maybe passing downs as a senior to get him some run but still…makes little sense.

#5 Mertz last year was tons better than his WI days so they did improve him. Until Saturday.

#6. I don’t think it matters what happens. Unless Florida now goes like 9-3 he is toast. I still want Lagway to play. I’d love for him to improve as the year goes on and maybe peak later and pull an upset or two in some shoot outs. Give me something to root for. Even knowing he may be out the door after the season (unless $ and the right hire can convince him to stay- he does like UF). Lagway staying at Florida after a great statistical close to the season and a new coach could help bring in some serious NIL and help recruiting and portal for next year. Doesn’t take a Bill Napier 5 year plan to turn a program around.

In one game (hell, one half), Napier was able to lose 99% of his remaining supporters. We were promised change and a team we can be proud of. We're not seeing any of that in year 3 of the experiment.

There's no doubt that he's making a difference in these players life, which is great if he were the team chaplain. We paid him to win ball games, period. Hindsight is always 20/20 and we can now see this staff is not great. We are trying to build using Saban's formula, but without Saban's ability to surround himself with elite coaches. I can't name one coach on our staff that has any championship coaching pedigree. Can you?

The buyout is 85% of remaining contract, which is $26M+. Pay it and move on. I don't see a path where Napier is going to be our coach at season's end.

Normally I would agree. But we're in a situation right now when forum members, because of their despair over what we witnessed on Saturday, deserve some leeway to vent....even to the degree we are seeing multiple threads with the same theme.

Let 'em vent. Hopefully things will settle back down a bit by the weekend.......

Napier as our coach brings to mind the Maya Angelou quote, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them." Regardless of his promises or our assumptions, we should believe he is the coach he has demonstrated himself to be.

Identity. That’s it. The process is important but it cannot be your onfield identity unless you’re piling up top 3 classes on one another. There are 3 ways to get to championship level -
    1. build program- (recruiting, culture etc)
    2. Scheme (you’re just a better play caller )
    3. Motivational (players run through walls on gameday )
Georgia and bama have all 3
    Ole Miss has #2
    Tennessee has #2
    Mizz and 2 and 3
    Miami has #1
    Ohio state all 3

we have ZERO. We have none of those things. CBN put all his chips in #1. He did not give a flying f about offensive scheme and he’s whiffed on defensive coaches. He puts you to sleep when he talks, I can only imagine what the pregame speeches are like. “Guys pay attention to detail”? He’s got these dudes in their own heads.

and btw, it seems like he has the Yips from a playcalling standpoint. Run when we should throw and vice versa. It’s all hyper fixated on staying on schedule instead of having a rythym or flow or tempo or energy. The route tree is the worst in the SEC and I KNOW callaway and Billy G have to know this- right? They have to be beside themselves that this dude is calling plays

Also- it should be noted he’s currently in his Monday presser doing the “just an assignment or two away” crap. I could see how he thought that and even believed it after Mizzou or Arkansas… how does he NOT SEE this offense is not working ????
