Of course the win was great. No one disputes that. But you made my point inadvertently. There's a HUGE difference between 4-2 and 3-3 as you say. Each game is important, and each game is going to be a knife fight. (Well, most games anyway.) So we CANNOT come out sleepy. We need to have the attitude of "knife fight" every single game. Not "show up and win." Not "let's be lazy" or try and get cute with no look passes (Condon) or low % alley oops that ARE NOT THERE. We had so many wasted possessions last night. And so many defensive lapses. I honestly think we can beat anyone in the nation if we come out "hair on fire" as we have done many times this year. But we're going to lose some winnable SEC games if we bring the Mizzou/ USC attitude again. A very nice win last night shouldn't obscure that fact.
If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. No one would dispute that getting behind makes it harder to win. I am quite sure the people that get paid to coach winning basketball have come to the same conclusion.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned it already but Condo “boxing out” Boyle-Murray to clear the lane for Richard was the co-play of the game. 6’11 230 vs 6’7 245, his legs are strong as hell to keep a bigger guy with a lower center of gravity at bay was huge - and to do it without a play call, very smart on his part to clear the lane for Richard’s game winning layup. A perfect example of a game-winning play that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet
In addition or perhaps even more so, I'm excited about the potential for a single-digit loss season. It's been quite a while since the Gators pulled that off. Edit: 2016-17 Chiozza buzzer beater / Elite 8 team had nine losses. Before that, it was Billy's 2013-14 team.
Pretty disappointed. There was one guy who after the game I said something to. I try to keep my mouth shut, but he was the most annoying guy. He yelled at Golden and the players the entire game....literally every play. Even some South Carolina fans were getting annoyed. With us being so close to the bench, he was probably dumb enough to think Golden would respond. I yelled at him that Todd coached a pretty good game and you're a grown man yelling at players all game being a loser. He didn't like that and had a dumb response. I'll never understand men in their 40s and older yelling at players so intensely in a personal way. I get college students. But hey, if you can't take it, don't dish it. Dude was a wimp.
I wish I could post pictures, but they are too high quality. It's the second year I've been able to get pretty much sideline seats through work for free. I work for Colonial Life and we sponsor the arena. I will say, seeing SEC basketball this close makes you appreciate just how big, strong, and fast these dudes are. It's crazy. Golden is pretty calm compared to what they show on TV. He goes after the refs, but it's balanced. I think fans go after him more because he is younger. They were all giving it to him. Same thing with Condon. Golden did tell Condon to put his fing hands up on defense when taking him out. The staff yells out a lot of plays and defensive terms. It's pretty cool to see and hear. I had a perfect view of the lay up. I wish I had recorded it. I get so into the game, I don't go on my phone much. I'm very visible in my bright orange shirt. Lol.
speaking of those "cute" plays, please stop the tomahawk dunks in traffic, trying to make ESPN. I think it was Alexis that missed one last night, but could be wrong. Just make the basket and move on.
One of my concerns come March is a worn out team having to go through the meat grinder of the SEC. We are basically playing 8 players and most of the games will go wire to wire. Then comes the SEC tourney with only a few days to rest and prepare of the big tourney. Frankly, most of the SEC teams will be worn out in this league. My other concern going into the big tourney is that it appears the SEC refs are letting physical play happen. That all changes when the NCAA begins because you will have refs who will call tons of fouls. Hopefully, we will be able to work in a few other guys so as to be prepared for those refs who love to call ticky tac fouls. It will happen.
Aberdeen missed a alley that was insane. Craziest missed dunk I've ever seen in person. His vert is freaky.
He missed one of those one handed crusher oops in a recent game too. One day he will get it and it just might be his break out moment (think Casey Prather driving the lane and dunking on UK at Rupp).
That's awesome! And yes - you do stand out. ha. Just went back and watched you jump and down. I think you were quite subdued, actually. Ida been losing my mind right there.
Good point. It's a lot harder to pull out a single-digit-losses season than a 20-win season. Most years, I think this team would do it. But this season, the SEC is so strong, top to bottom, it will take a positively Herculean effort. Herculean, I say!
It worked. Here are a few more pictures. I'm on the left (horrible angle of me). I graduated in 2011. My dad in the middle graduated in 2000.
