    Yes, that's interesting and ironic.

But let's not digress; racist scumbags like Trump and Vance have no business being in politics, promoting their racist division just to scare up votes.

American citizens also shouldn't tolerate their racist crap and lies.

Grown adults should really have one main take-away from this whole affair; Trump and Vance are racist scum who would divide us for votes, and that is something we shouldn't tolerate. Anyone who does either vote for Trump or tolerate this is making the statement that they are willing to tolerate racism.

So the fact that Trump is saying immigrants eat pets is not really important - the important thing is these crazy statements have helped focus attention on Springfield which is a good thing - so ultimately Trumps pet cannibalism comments have been a helpful service to the community.

    Does that cover it?

I laughed at the disingenuousness of your post. You didn’t give one thought about Springfield until you heard that a bunch of Haitians went there and were eating pets. Then you claim to care about Springfield because they are struggling - which isn’t evident (there is a lot of GDP flowing in now even with some strain on resources). I showed you that town is dying and needs immigration to energize it but you are a lightening rod for pet eaters.

It still hasn’t sunk in to me that we had a candidate talking about eating cats in a Presidential debate.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

Living in Florida I am aware of the problems that exploding populations do to infrastructure. Eating pets isn’t one of them. Springfield was a dying city. Managing growth is difficult but nowhere as bad as managing collapse

I’ve always wondered why I keep seeing Haitian BBQ places right next to animal shelters. Now I know. Note to self: steer clear.

Why is it necessary to describe the new residents as 'migrants' if your main concern is about the community's growth challenges? Does their status as migrants change how the town's expansion is perceived? The core of the pet-eating rumor lies in portraying these newcomers as unwelcome or undesirable, rather than focusing on solutions to accommodate the growth.

Florida has the largest population of Haitian immigrants. I don't recall ever seeing a story about a person being arrested for eating pets. Why is that?

The complaints about strained infrastructure would be easier to stomach if the GOP platform wasnt basically "lets dump immigrants in places not prepared to handle them as a political stunt." They've shown zero interest in accommodating the influx of people anywhere, and they think the strain will cause some kind of action in their favor. This is basically their own policy at work. Most of the places they end up are doing the best they can and since that hasnt caused a magical turnabout in their favor, then they inject racist nonsense into the mix.

Rather than just post whatever you find on Twitter, you could take about 15 seconds to research it. Then you'd find that the woman lives in Canton, not Springfield. She has no known connection with any foreign country and her arrest record goes back years.

I did not know about the problems Springfield is facing from the large influx of migrants over short amount of time, until the story broke and I started looking into it. No disingenuousness at all.

You saying that Springfield has no problems from this influx is calling the city commissioners liars. Are you saying you know more than them?

All you showed was that the population has declined, which everyone knows. Dumping a large number of people into the city over a short amount of time might energize it over the long term, but causes problems today.

For illustration purposes, not that it’s actually happening, you can’t tell somebody living in tents isn’t it wonderful that this housing development will be done in two years. You can’t tell starving people cheer up, we planted corn and wheat, and it’ll be harvested next year to feed you. Those are extreme examples that illustrate that the influx of people need services now, and I don’t see that the federal government that placed the people there has provided the services or the resources needed.

I understand why you might ask that, but it is relevant to describe them as migrants, which they are. Migrants typically bring little resources with them and depend heavenly on local government services.

If 20,000 people had moved to Springfield over the last couple years and came from, say California, they typically would’ve brought their own resources with them. They probably would’ve bought houses and begun paying property taxes to support city and county governments.

The reason city and county services are stretched is because migrants bring very little resources with them.

I knew when I wrote that someone would make a comment like yours. The reason I put it in was because if I didn’t, then most people on TH would just assume that it was a racist, white person making a comment. That’s just the way TH is.

Phatgator gives me a come on man for pointing out that he said that a black woman was concerned that other black people were moving to Springfield. I heard that a Jew complained that too many Jews were moving to NYC. I heard that a Latino complained that too many Latinos were moving to Miami.

My understanding is that most of the migrants there are working in local industry, and the main challenge is housing and services, which is an issue in all boom towns that cant accommodate an influx of people. Read any story about some of the fracking and natural gas towns that emerge, people are renting storage closets and stuff. In some sense the people working there have more resources than the people who were already there, which creates a certain resentment to. Literally the "migrants are taking our jobs and doing them better" trope. I saw a quote where someone talked to one of the employers in the area and he was saying he hires Haitians because they dont do drugs and show up to work, implying the 'locals' are not reliable.
