Caught Dave Chapelle last night at the Amway Center. It was the first event I’ve been to where no cell phones were allowed. They boxed them up and locked it up. You could only open the box containing your phone after the show.
Apparently Dave crossed the line at a previous stop in Boston. A bunch of folks walked out at that show over his jokes on Israel.
Dave Chappelle sees walkouts over Israel-Palestine takes: report
Last night he went after gays, trans, republicans and the handicapped. He made a few Desantis seems gay jokes.
I guess that’s why he didn’t want cell phones in there.
    We enjoyed the show.

I'm sure it was an enjoyable time with some good laughs. Chapelle has really lost his fastball the last few years though, imo. His comedy is pretty jaded now, but he can't quite pull it off like Carlin could.

Yondr has been around for a few years now and a lot of artists use it. John Mulaney and Kevin Hart were two shows we went to that locked up the phones.

We all know that political stuff is gonna be edgy, but dare I ask how he went after folks with disabilities!?

He opened the show with a joke about how trans people bothered him.
He quickly said he wouldn’t make any more about them and said something like, I’m gonna go after people who’ll never see it coming….made a retarded joke and then went after a republican in a wheelchair.

At least Dave learned from his bad takes on Israel…no mention of it in last nights show.
You still continue on with your antisemitism on the board though.

How did logistics work with thousands coming in with cell phones? Or everyone just leave them in the car?

So he's bowing to cancel culture and the PC mob? I thought that was his whole bit now.

I hate that you have to turn your phone in, but in this day and age you just can't have fun and make fun of people without someone getting offended and sure don't want it broadcasted.
I wonder what today's folks would think of the likes of Pryor, Murphy, Carlin? I just laugh, even when it is nearly 100% directed at who I am. If you can't laugh at yourself, you need to lighten up!!

As you enter security line there were several workers placing phones in boxes and locking them.
    It worked rather quickly.
It was tricky once inside without phones. It was a cool trip back in time.

I mean what do you do when you're bored? Pay attention to the show? Pure torture.

Lol reminds me of about 40 years ago we saw Rodney Dangerfield at the Tupperware Center. It was about the time smoking started getting banned in public places. Rodney walked out on stage with a lit cigarette and said, "It's my show, I can do this, you guys are just screwed."

I saw Wu Tang in concert back in like 1999 and one of their members came out before the show, got on the mic, and said "who here has a blunt I can smoke." A good number of people held one up in the air and a blunt ended up getting passed up the crowd and he sat on the front of the stage and smoked it before passing it around the crowd. Good times.

I actually meant walking around with wife and friends. You have to stay together, make plans or else you just meet back up at seats.
No way to communicate on the fly.
It was like the good ole days.

Personally I don't think there is any line in comedy. It's either funny or not. All subjective of course but I don't get offended by comments about even the most sacred or taboo of topics. I will either laugh or not. So be it.
