I get it but 39 is pretty bad too if you think of being ranked as the number 25 team in the nation which isn’t very good either.

And maybe be a little flexible and adjust instead of being so obvious as to what we are going to run. We can’t be predictable and we have to make adjustments.

It was really good for the 1st half especially, but I think Heupel was hamstrung by Milton and not having his center Mays. Princely and Sapp had the game of their lives. I don't know that we can expect the 3 to play as disciplined and have the effect they had. UT's OL will be better than last year and Sampson is a better rb. To make this work against a better throwing qb, i think we have to shorten our bench and have the speed LB in the game: James and Robinson and hope they tackle better this week

I think we could safely say the answer was yes.

Armstrong isn't even holding a play sheet on the sidelines. So I think it's very unlikely he is calling the plays. Roberts is upstairs and that's where the guy calling plays generally is.

So I think the suspicion here is probably backwards and it's more likely Armstrong was calling it in the first 3 games and then it switched in week 4 when they moved Armstrong from the box to the sidelines and vice versa for Robeerts.

AA was on the sideline last year and this defense looks a lot more like what he called last year.

The most reasonable conclusion is that if he doesn't have a play sheet he's not making the calls, just giving input and managing things on the field. Everyone wants to say things changed because the play caller changed, but maybe after their 4th game and a bye week, they collectively made changes in their approach.

39 is not a bad defense and Florida would have won a title in 19 or 20 with that. It's not elite but I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Wondering the same too. Boireau only got 5 snaps also, while Taylor got 13. It looked like the DT position was depending more on guys who played last year and stopped UTk with the same scheme.

May have been good enough for a national championship, but having 38 defenses better than yours is still not very good. Are there even 38 legit programs in the country?

There's a lot to that statistic though. Offensive pace and scheme of your team and your opponents as well can affect that. Number of close games vs blowouts. Downs played by starters vs backups. If you're in the top 40 you're OK as long as you're balanced with a good offense as well. We were competitive with offenses ranked in the 90s and 100s with maclwein. We were the same with Mullen on offense vs defense. All we needed was a top 40 defense or offense in any of those years and we would be extremely tough to beat.

Yet a 40th offense and a 40th defense paired together won’t win many in this league. One can be overcome by the other but 40th just isn’t very good.

Auburn won the MNC in 2010 with a 60th ranked defense.
