My gut tells me that Mullen didn’t write this. Not written by a grad assistant but whatever the equivalent is.

One guy nearly won us a SEC championship if he had a timeout or 30 more seconds (maybe even a NC with our offense), beat Georgia and got us in two NY6 bowl games the other hasn't made a bowl game at all.

You exaggerate, sir. Napier has indeed “made” a bowl game. Have you forgotten our performance against mighty Oregon State in 2022? Perhaps the trauma of the outcome caused you to forget?

    Probably true.

Bigger than the 'that' he didnt is the 'how(s)' he didnt. Those hows spoke volumes. Maybe they dont accurately represent his true potential. But even so he absolutely needs to show otherwise this season.

He was toast when he refused to lead and lay down the consequences of selfish behavior.

Year 3 happened because shark boy ran off his best QB.
If Grier stayed and was eligible, we have a fighting chance in those two championship games and McElwain isn't fired.

So we agree, then, it was a disaster, not what “could have been.”

Fair assessment and kinder than others.

You asked, so here goes: Mullen was one game below .500. In other words better than any season since. I’m not arguing that he should have been retained because I think for some reason or reasons he probably can’t discuss because of his NDA he was done with UF. So yes, a disaster but then again it’s not the only disaster we’ve seen lately.

Ran off or not, Grier was not going to be available anyway due to his peds suspension.

I was a Mullen apologist too, but not now.

He fired two assistants nine months too late, he was undisciplined and an unmotivated recruiter at the end. He got what he deserved.

Or had a season above .500

But Mullen was his own worst enemy. His job was to hire and retain an effective coaching staff and he failed at that by just not doing it.

We were discussing McElwain, not Mullen, in context.

He would have been available for McElwain’s third season.

Yep. Mullen calling that incredible stupidity a "ball play" was the dumbest thing I have ever heard a coach say. And coaches say a lot of dumb things.

I wonder how much better our recruiting and record would have been if Mullen had the army that we have now. I remember them saying they didn’t want to get into a recruiting “arms race”. Now they’re in it and the new race is NIL.

Mullen wouldn’t manage an Army. Wasn’t he offered more staff and turned it down?

Soooo many things interfere with wakeboarding and the time it takes to drive to an out of town Publix.
