The neocons were hoping the US could defeat Russia with Ukraine. They know the US can’t … As US standards fall, military less trusted - Global Times
You do realize Ukraine have bombed civilian targets in the Donbas and regularly house soldiers in civilian quarters, which is a big no? Along with the cluster munitions. But all the rah rah crap aside, the issue here for the U.S. is we aren't protecting anything. More people have died since we upped our weapons ante to Ukraine than before. We were told in no uncertain terms that the weapons were being sent to Ukraine to liberate their country and that's not happening. What is happening is a lot more Ukrainians are dying. Our aid is actually causing more of what you describe as your rationale for American involvement. It hasn't helped it. We're funding a humanitarian catastrophe. We're in the midst of the grand Ukrainian counteroffensive and it's Russia eeking out minute territory net gains. They're going to bleed Ukraine dry and then it's going to be lights out. Ukraine doesn't have 5 lines of defense like Russia has. They've put most of their resources into this counteroffensive, which is failing miserably. That's why Ukraine is half-assing this, because the more they commit, the sooner their demise.
P.S. In Ukraine's defense, they delayed their counteroffensive several months because they were waiting on Western tanks which were supposed to have arrived much sooner. So not only are we funding a losing battle, we're missing our commitments on defense.
If God be for you who can be against you. The Russian Church claims the invasion will cleanse Russian sins.
They were aimed at Russian troops in Donbas. Only using cluster bombs after the Russians used them. It’s called responding in like. Russia is the occupier plain and simple. They need to be expelled from Ukraine. I guess you think it’s ok for Russia to do all the stuff I mentioned? Seems like it. Give Ukraine the weapons and let them decide how and where to use them. Just keep them coming. I don’t know about you but I’d rather die free than be treated like Russia is treating Ukraine citizens or as a Russian slave. What a great future for Ukraine you envision. Just say you don’t give a shit about them, love you some Ruskies, and STFU.
If our navy isnt building systems to counter sea drones we are screwed. I can see Iran and some other bad actors deploying these and not taking responsibility for them. Either trained dolphins or AI sonar or small vessel drone swarms...going to need something
Except they make more noise for sonar detection and targeting. Maybe a formation of aerial drones with downlooking radar for detection and targeting?
Every time I read a take like this on Ukraine, it's always followed by some angry outburst of emotion, reminiscent of a bitter ex-girlfriend. Check your virtue signaling at the door for me, bud. There are 10,000 children who die in this world every day from starvation. If you just feel the need to hand over hundreds of billions of dollars of weapons to a foreign country who is known for their resounding, deep-rooted corruption, that's your call, but don't act like you're taking some moral high ground and that anyone who disagrees with you must be less than human, because that shit won't fly with me. All you're proving is that you are easily pliable by mass media. Can you even point out the Donbas on a map? Either way, save the moral high ground bs for somebody who will fall for it. We have much larger problems in this world than Russia retaking land that's been their land for the greater portion of the past 300 years.
Apologize for the outburst. The bitter ex girlfriend comment made me laugh. I’ve been with the same woman for 51 years. You’ll have to use that one on somebody else. I hate that kids are starving and a country is attacking its weaker neighbor and doing all the stuff I mentioned, eventually enslaving its people and most likely will murder those who don’t obey. I think both are worthy of action. If that’s virtual signaling, you got me. Come on. You know we have bone yards and stockpiles of arms that we will never use again. Ukraine is fighting a WWII type war that’s perfect for our stockpiles of old arms. Even the F16s and tanks are older weapons. If we sit back and allow Russia to do what they please with Ukraine what’s next? And Russia is not our friend so let’s give Ukraine the means to weaken them. A stronger Ukraine and weaker Russia is a win, win situation. Then there’s China. Don’t you think our response and that of other countries to aid Ukraine gives them something to think about re invading Taiwan? I do. We’re also learning about Russia’s deficiencies and strengths from the war. Another win. I’m 100% in support of helping Ukraine defend themselves. And no, I cannot point to Donbas on the map. Lol
The tanks aren't going to be too much use until Ukraine breaks through the Russian defenses. The counter-offensive was primarily delayed by the weather. It rains in Ukraine in the spring, and the ground needed to dry out before they could start the counter-offensive. I'm sure they were also gathering ammunition and positioning troops.
That's what they said after Hitler invaded Poland. And, yes, the comparison is valid. Putin has made statements that indicate that the greatest tragedy of the 20th century was Russia losing the former Soviet satellite countries, so there is every indication that he would not stop with Ukraine. The best argument for someone lacking in morals to recognize the evil of what Putin is doing is to explain that we may never get a better chance to defeat a dangerous rival without losing any American troops for such a small investment. Think about where so many of our weapons systems wind up after a relatively short career in many cases. They either wind up in the scrap yard or long-term storage. We have nearly brand new ships that are headed for the scrap yard because their design premise was not realized. Other weapons platforms wind up in a desert boneyard without ever having an impact in global affairs. It's a huge expenditure of money for insurance in case we ever need it (which we usually don't). We know that every weapon we send to Ukraine will be used on Russia, usually to devastating effect. And overall, the weapons we send will have a significant impact towards weakening Russia, and pushing them closer to (economic) collapse. If Russia does collapse economically, we may be able to re-structure Russia so that it no longer views the rest of the world as a barbarian views the world, as groups of victims waiting to be conquered. We may also be able to re-structure Russia so that it's second-largest export item isn't military weapons that make the world more dangerous. There is value in making the world a safer place. I would feel sorry for anyone that doesn't agree with that.
China's support for Russia may be fading, according to the Brits. China's failing economy may be the cause of this, along with recognizing that western countries do not want to do business with anyone supporting a marauding war criminal like Putin. China’s support for Putin may be fading
Ukraine is the first country to use drones to evacuate injured soldiers from the battlefield. Ukraine is evacuating wounded soldiers by loading them onto large drones, in what is likely a battlefield first, report says
An interesting article on how Ukraine has dominated and humiliated Russia's air force, essentially neutering them and making them completely ineffective. Russia's air force is barely able to leave its own airspace because Ukraine's defenses are so strong, UK intel says
