Much has been made here about German contributions to NATO. The truth is that nobody really wanted Germany to militarize after WW2, not even after West Germany became part of NATO. Things have changed

NATO has saved lives. It stopped the wars of communist conquest, especially in Europe. Until communism pretty much died.

Send love letters and flowery videos?

Zelensky is demonstrating remarkable leadership and making Putin look like an insane war criminal. Along with the international pressure, I hope it forces Putin to recognize a way out by meeting with Zelensky and say his security concerns were addressed, and leave.

Won’t matter. He has £2B in sanction insurance. It’s debatable how much sway he has with Putin anyway as one of reasons he bought Chelsea was to insulate a large amount of wealth from Putin when Putin was taking out oligarchs in the early 00s.

A nation wants to shed the yoke of authoritarianism and you think should have done everything we could to disallow that?

    Which would that be?

But yeah, you sound a hella lot like your sympathizing with Putin, unless you think it was wrong for him to invade Ukraine.

I recalled that it had ended but didn't know if anything is in it's place.

N Ga and Tennessee, going to fish blue lines with a relative who lives up there. Always a bit different for me as I usually fish salt. Hope to get back to Montana either fall or next spring too. Not too many hiking years left ;)

This. If the whole claim is the NATO issue, if Ukraine says they'll remain unaffiliated, then Russia agrees to pull out. All the way out. Those 2 provinces to have elections monitored by Israel to see if they want to be part of Ukraine or Russia. Russia then agrees to pay reparations for lost lives and damage. Russia will then give up their Security Council seat for a set amount of time.

    Or something like that.

    Turkish drones...past due

'First footage ever' shows Ukraine striking Russian forces with Turkish drone

On Saturday Ukraine's embassy in Turkey said that Ukrainian forces had struck a Russian military convoy in the southern city of Kherson using TB2 drones. Accompanying the post was a video purportedly showing the aftermath of the strike.
Earlier this month, Ukraine and Turkey signed a series of agreements, including a deal that would expand the production capabilities of Turkish drone-maker Baykar in Ukraine.

I hadn't thought beyond Russia pulling out, you bring up really good points about what accountability Russia now faces.

Agreed. After this it would not be a matter of simply going back to two weeks ago and saying "no worries". First things first: Russia needs to GTFO of Ukraine.

Reason that I said those things was they're discussing conditions and stuff tomorrow, right? So if the whole premise is the NATO squabble then Ukraine agreeing to remain neutral should solve the situation. And Russia should be made to pay for what they did & how it was handled. Their behavior should also get them penalized at the UN. A security council sear is a big responsibility and privilege. They've lost that privilege at least temporarily.

Lukshenko is just as bad as Putin.

    But the good news…

If Ukraine hadn't been wearing skimpy revealing clothing Russia probably would have left it alone.
