Doesn’t want or need? What kind of analysis is that? You understand Russia has already mobilized every person who has ever worn a uniform along with many who haven’t, right? They have emptied their prisons of anyone they think might be able to take a risk on. They have put thousands of their young men to flight, vacating whatever civilian positions they might have held. And their reliance on mercenary formations hasn’t been seen since — what? — the Thirty Years War? But you airily assume they are so fat on personnel or that the war is going so well they don’t need or want 400,000 more personnel or to increase the length of the front by 674 miles. I suspect Russia does have at least one good reason for not yet openly ending the illusion of Belarusian sovereignty, but it isn’t because they don’t need the help.
C’mon bro, you’re saying Belarus has almost as big an army as Russia does. LOL, do you really believe this?
I never said any such thing. I said Belarus has a military (not army) of roughly 400,000, including reservists. The Russian military, including reservists, is over 3,000,000 … well, minus however many will never leave Ukraine alive, of course.
I’m more concerned with Chinese and Iranian involvement. Belarus is reserved as that cocky neighbor to the north who could always join the party at a moment’s notice, but likely never will. They serve very little strategic value as an ally to Russia, other than being a satellite state.
That’s a separate matter. I never said I was concerned about it. Neither do I necessarily predict it happening in the near future (though Russia does apparently view the move as inevitable). I only pointed out that Russia does have valid reasons for annexing Belarus, allowing that Russia must balance these against the risks such a move would cause during the current phase of Russian expansion.
The question was “why would Putin do this”, there was your answer. It’s not whether anyone is counting on it happening.

Russia starts promising $650 to recruits for every kilometer they advance the front in Ukraine. Russia has been shorting soldiers' salaries for several weeks--how are they going to afford this? I can't imagine that any soldier that has had his salary cut would believe that Putin would actually follow through with this promise. Once again, Russia is starting to look desperate in this war. Ukraine war latest: Russian recruits offered £530 for every kilometre they advance I can only imagine how our resident troll would try to spin this into a "Russia is winning" argument.
